Yep, did that myself too. I'm sure there are other little things I'm leaving out, but those were the major steps.

I received my detailed quote from ERA for a turnkey slabside about a month ago and $75K is the starting point...no options, no frills 302, 2 stage paint, etc. I found this a little inconsistent with the guidance on their website, but I guess you have to pay-up for quality.

The two price killers here are the "turn key" option that will cost you between 10/15k and the engine package that will run 5/7k. If you really want a milder 302 set up for cruising, there are several remanufactured engine suppliers that will give you a nice street 302 for 2k. Add a small 4bbl and mild cam and you are ready to run and will probably get 20/25 mpg as well as 300 HP. Same with a rebuilt Tremek trans, half the new price. Don't get too cute with the rear and brakes, as stock Impala brakes and a Jag Trac-Loc rear are more than enough for your planned use. You also don't need leather, as the vinyl seats are virtually undistinguishable from leather and wear better.
Use your head, get some quality guy to install the engine/trans combo (or do it yourself, it's really easy) and you can get a desireable slab ERA Cobra for well within your budget and Patrick's estimate. You can also spend a lot of cash if all you want to do is show up and drive away.
Sit down with Peter, he will give you all the options and recommendations you need to know. Congrats, you've made a wise choice going with ERA.

The quote for a custom car like this has a lot of variables, even if "no frills". A big block car was just listed in the ads for what, $45k? With cars still selling in this price range it'd be tough to build new.

But for a lot of folks, it's not about the money. It's about having your Cobra buillt exactly to your specs. Every bolt, every screw, every zip tie -- all, made just the way you want it. And when you take delivery, you know the only butt that's been in that driver's seat was Doug's when he was test driving it for you. If you're looking for a "bargain deal," a Turnkey ERA, built to fit you perfectly, ain't it.

As it was for I, but people here make mention of the price difference between a Kirk & An ERA. If your that worried about price, it seems 45k with a few "Taste" adjustments makes a lot of sense. If you aren't...well, a chrome car is probably what you're going to buy

Frankly, I haven't kept up with prices over the years. Can you get a new, true turnkey FIA Kirkham, with decent accoutrements, for under a $100k?

UPDATE!!!
Ahh YES......Plans always have a way of going in other directions....Remember that ERA 427 I "almost" purchased???
Yea....Well it's sitting in my GARAGE!! The seller wanted out and made me an offer I couldn't walk away from.
Here's the details.
ERA # 717
428 Cobra Jet with Dove Aluminum Heads w/electronic ignition and
optional heavy duty radiator
Top loader 4 speed (wide ratio)
Remote heavy duty oil cooler
Halibrand style knockoffs (real pin drives)
Optional ERA Jag rear end with OUTBOARD disks
Optional battery relocation package (trunk mounted)
Smith's Gauges in "street" dash with glove box
Vinyl seats
Keyed battery cutoff switch in trunk
427 rollbar (black)
Side pipes (black)
Show quality (as in fully wet sanded) Black paint with silver stripes done by one of ERA's recommended painters in nearby MA
The car was purchased as a roller and finally assembly was completed by a licensed Mechanical Engineer...The workmanship is incredible, the car runs perfect and every single thing works.
3700 miles
Price???
$39,500!!!

Pictures, please. They don't have to be fabulous, just the general overview. Thx. Nice pick up, congrats.

Yes that is correct. I can agree with that statement
Congrats! $39,500 for a newer ERA? Wow, what was the seller thinking? There are a couple ERA's on Club Cobra asking in the $60K+ range.

You gotta be some kind of cousin, fd. My car is ERA 718, black (no stripe Tony paint), 428 FE, CR Top Loader, and I just love it. You got a real nice deal there. Let's see some photos.
