Ball Joints

I need ball joints for ERA # 463. The parts list in my book shows ball joints made /brand by Republic...........I cannot find anything by that manufacturer.

Is that a region specific manufacturer? Do those part numbers cross to something I can buy local from a different manufacturer? Do I need to order them from ERA?

Can anyone help with part #'s and/or brand??

Look in the Maintenance Parts section in the back of the manual. It has applications and more part numbers. I've PM'd you the link to the latest manuals.

FWIW, "Republic" is (or was) The Republic Gear Company and they were located up in St. Clair Shores, MI -- I did a quick Google and could not tell whether they were still around or not, or who bought them, but you still see their stuff on Ebay from time to time -- the pics of the stuff always look old, though. It's probably easier to just buy the MOOG stuff instead....

That's what happens when you've been doing this for 30 years. Your original suppliers die before you do. I'll have to remove those Republic references from the manuals.

I have to admit, we've been using MOOG pieces for at least a decade.

Got my car in '95..........been using the manual since then for most of what I have needed.

Will use the updated manual links from now on.

Getting old isn't for the faint of heart..........is it?

A little history - I found/bought the engine out of Hemmings from a guy in Conn - still in the Ford shipping crate - 0 miles on it in 1997. There were dyno sheets which showed 610 hp after changing the compression ratio so that it would run pump gas.

Maintenance/upkeep/problems have been minimal.............so far it has caused me no problems.

Entirely tooooo much power for a 2300# car.........but it is nice to know and have it available if you want it.

I drove an alcohol funny car for several years and comparatively speaking the Cobra scares the HELL out of me.

The 1200 rpm idle is unique to the engine itself - every one who listens to the engine can tell it is a cammer as opposed to a 427 SO - the same is true when accelerating through the gears - again the engine sound is unique to this engine.

Thanks Dee for the info and number. Certainly know your name from TA/FC.
A friend we called 'Hacksaw' put a Cammer in ERA 275 and that's how I remember it too. I could run on top with him because he had crappy sidepipes, and a Stellings on a 780 IIRC-must have cost him 100 HP.
