Kevin - I worked on mine still mounted in the car. I removed the front plate and loosened the Allen screw on the fan blade so it woud drop down on the shaft. After removing the nuts securing the motor to the case bottom there was just enough room to squeeze it out past the heater coil. On a work bench it would be easier to just remove the heater coil for room but mine was hooked up to hoses and sealed to the firewall and I didn't want to pull it. By the way - it probably won't be real impressive in an open car, but the heater does seem to move a good amount of air.
