If you don't trim it, it will be awfully close to the ground. With the rpms that engine will turn, and with there only being a little bit of fiberglass between you and the flywheel, I would at least go with the trimmed Quicktime. No aluminum.
I know someone who can get you a good deal on a QT... You need an RM-6065.

BTW, if you change distributors, lock the timing out, and make sure that the new distributor has a steel gear on it.

Is there a chart comparing tire weights?
Differences can be drastic, i.e for BFG vs Hoosier.
Nice going by the way, to weigh all parts. I built my car in the 90s on bathroom scales!
Needed 8 of them :-)
Aim to save as much as you can for rotating weights.

You need an adjoining scale which measures dollars spent vs pounds removed.................

nah - Purchasing used helps a lot. There is some pretty good margin between purchasing used and a new roller. I got a great platform and I get to build what I want.
Building a Cobra with Shelby weight (not sure I will make it, but not for lack of trying), ERA chassis, ERA suspension, aluminum engine, and lite weight gearbox is a very gratifying thing to work on. I am fortunate I have the means and it makes me smile every time I see it. . I waited I long time to get the opportunity and I am enjoying every minute. That it is 12 years old just makes it that much better for me.
I intend to enjoy it for years to come .
- unless it turns out to be a complete POS.

Great process- what are you hoping it will end up at for total weight?
