Sidecurtain to windshield fit??

I would appreciate opinions/suggestions from anyone with sidecurtians on thie ERA. I'm fitting my windshield today and starting out one sidecurtain leaned in a lot more than the other. I did a little tweaking on the driver side to bring it in a little, but it's still not leaning in as much as the passenger side. I'm at the point now that I think the windshield angle is set OK with about 1/4 inch clearance to the sidecurtain when closed.

To even things up I need to either lean the passenger one out a little or lean the driver side in a little. If anyone can think of a reason to go one way or the other or offer any other suggestions before I drill the escutchin plates and cinch it down, I would appreciate it.

I'm not sure it's that critical overall - this is obviously not a tightly sealed area.

Get ahold of Allan with the green FIA. He has Bruce's hardtop and fabbed his own sidecurtains. He can help with the windshield angle and maybe the tilt at the top.

When fitted properly they will look like this. They work with the side curtains and actually form a pretty decent little seal.

Patrick - do you have a photo looking down from the top like my photos? My plexiglass is clearing the windhield by about 1/4 inch but it is tucked inside the windshield frame. I figure a little gap is good so it won't rub and squeak - ???

Also - what did you put on the bottom of your sidecurtains to seal the gap with the body?

I looked through Allen's ownership thread but didn't see anything in his pictures on the subject. Also checked ERA's manual supplements but didn't see anything on the subject.

I know - I like to tinker. I can take any project and make it twice as long and twice as detailed as it needs to be.

I think I remember Allen did posts in his 'ownership log' about how he fabbed and fitted his curtains. He used aluminum channel for the frames-so I know I saw it.

Your're right - he did cover that in his posts. But nothing too specific on fitting them to the car.

Car's not in it's bag for the winter yet I see - lucky for me.

It looks like your windshield is adjusted to just lightly rest on the front of the sidecurtain where I have about a 1/4 inch gap. Maybe I should close that up. I have the pins in my sidecurtainse adjusted now to where the front edge is inside of the windshield pillar by about the same amount.

But no weatherstripping on the bottom? Isn't that a little drafty?

I kind of look at the side curtains as being a "really cool oddity." The car looks very nice with the top and curtains on, but I almost never drive it that way. Fitting the top and curtains I'm sure was a real bear. Jack did a great job.

Well you have to admit he is johnny-on-the-spot with the camera and comes through in a pinch. He may have to start getting co-editorship credit on this Forum with Bob.
