Excellent - but you need to post photos to appease the masses.

Moving on to body work next I suspect?

It's interesting seeing the structural differences in the 427 and 289 frame. It looks like the 289 foot boxes are a bit wider too which will be nice for pedal placement. And it appears the wiper motor is on the driver side which is where it should be. Keep the photos coming.

Great progress!

So, off to paint towards the end of the year, still thinking Viking Blue? Hard to go wrong with that choice ...

Have you trimmed the fiberglass back on your wheel wells any? If not they appear to be trimmed a little tighter by ERA than mine were.

On the color, was back and forth on Viking Blue or Guardsman Blue. Both are very nice color's, but after looking at the Cobras at the Rolex Race in Laguna Seca I really like the Viking Blue. Have not started work on the fenders yet. I do see in some spot a line ERA drew on the fenders and the are very close and in some areas they were on the line. Looks like it will not be much to get them all on mark. Off next week so I can spend alot of time on her, plus getting ready for my daughter 1st Birthday. Goodtimes...

Looking good!....For what it's worth, my ERA had carpet for over that center section of trunklid... Maybe your preference is not to use it seeing as how you put the elbow grease into that area, but just thought I would throw it out there. Wait...were you going with a bare interior on this car? Maybe you don't have carpets...??

Yes, smoothing the underside of the hood and trunk was definately one of the most time consuming body work tasks. Hope you have an easy-sanding body filler. It would be nice if ERA were able to source out a press-molded fiberglass hood and trunk panel or SMC panels so that we didn't have to deal with this task. Maybe an idea for their next update.

I have two glass door skins from a HiTech that could improve door look?
Or call Panel Craft, they can make alloy parts?

Tooling for press-molding something as large as the hood runs about $50K, not including the 1000 ton press itself.

I just finished a boat using the resin-infusion method. (Scroll down to the bottom of this page. I suppose that it could be done with matched inner and outer molds, but it's difficult to get a perfectly void-free part. Any air left in the matrix will eventually show up in a finished painted part.

Ouch, yes - $50k per panel is a bit pricey for low volume, even for an extended run. I guess an SMC panel would be about the same. A full molded inner panel would be nice but some would object to the additional weight, not to mention so far above the CG. Of course all the body filler slathered on it adds a few lbs also.

...and the great majority of ERA owners use the supplied cloth to cover the inside of the trunk lid.

As for the underside of the engine cover (hood to all you Americans) that requires work... or a fabricated aluminum sheet. On my second ERA427sc, I took an aluminum sheet with a cutout for the hood scoop (and, therefore, split at the rear) and slipped it behind the fiberglass inner hood support structure. With the notch and opening for the hood scoop, I was able to curve the sheet so that it, from the underside, appeared to follow the shape of the hood. The rivets that held the hood scoop, went through and held the panel up against the underside of the hood.
