Ok, so I did not have the diode in. Put the diode in and it seems to be working.

Engagement looks good. Appears to be a good match. Now to put it all back together.

All back together and everything seems to be good. Nothing appears to be binding. Clutch may need some adjustment as it just seems a little soft.

Thanks to all for your help and advice. I could not have tackled this without your folks help.

Phil: Did you check that the full length of the starter pinion is engaging into the flywheel?

Yes, I checked it first by bolting to the block plate and bumping it to see engagement. I then removed the starter and checked the teeth which showed full engagement with no backlash. I sent pics to Robb at Robb MC and also said it looked good. Thus I think I am good. No funny sounds either at this point. The Mcleod clutch does seem a little soft so I will re-adjust in a 200 miles. All gears engage and reverse is much easier to go into now.

It was a little of a steep curve. The transmission came out easier then it went back in. Also not sure what happened, but the car does not raise up in the front as much and seems to squat better. I have not hammered it yet and will wait to get the clutch nice and wore in before that. I also was able to jam some permatex in the rear section of the intake seal on the back which significantly lessened the oil leak.

1) Break the new clutch and flywheel in gently. Most manufacturers recommend being gentle for a few hundred miles before you go nuts with it. Disregard any advice to immediately "drive it like you stole it."

2) I have virtually eliminated my intake manifold "misting" leak by putting small globs of Permatex Ultra-Grey on my gloved index finger and then massaging it in to the back manifold crevice. Use little bits, do it several times, and try and "squish" it in.

3) These cars do seem to settle a little bit after you jack them up, remove something, etc. but they go back to where you had them set after you run them a bit.

Thanks Patrick for the advice. Got caught in the rain for the first time. Of course my wipers aren't working but they were not really needed. Car is running great and starting fine.

So over a month into it and no issues. Starts as it should. I do have a clutch slave cylinder I have to replace. On to the next thing, but the Robb Mc starter works great.
