I hardly ever look at it -- I've used the "tach" method forever. 7, 11, 17, 21, and 34 -- just do the quick math in your head. Cops tend to cut me more breaks in the Cobra than they do in my DD cars anyway.

Your wiggle issue sounds like the inside of the reverser is a little gummed up. Easily taken apart and lubed

Naaah, I look at that dang speedo less than a minute a year in total. The next time I go under the dash, which is a PITA even on a good day, will be to wire this in to the four signal lights for emergency flashers. I plan to mount it in the glove box just like the 65/66 Mustang had it. I need to pick up some Schottky diodes and a flasher unit first though. I think I'll just Posi-Tap in to the lines for the front signals and dashboard light. The rear lights are easy to tap off of from the fast-blow fuse block on the steering column. I think even ol' Chas will like this:

My early car has a toggle under the left dash corner. Flipped one way, it directionals only. Flipped the other is hazards.

The hood brace "L bracket" is fastened to the firewall by two cap screws that go all the way through to the back side of the glove box where they have a brace going across under the two fastening nuts. That looks to be absolutely perfect for attaching a small bracket that will hold that Mustang switch securely. You know, I bet if you had asked for an Emergency Flasher switch in one of the original cars they probably would have just borrowed one from the Mustangs and then put them in the same place.

Back to the subject at hand . . . it appears that lubing the cable with graphite and the spacer on the reverser end of the cable did some good. Still bobbles some at low speed but above 20 mph or so it settles into a fairly consistent +/- 1/2 to 1 mph jiggle - which is probably about as good as it gets and as good as it started out. My thinking is since it still swings a little at low speed, there might be a little binding still in the cable or reverser that I can smooth out. So, as I have time I will probably give the cable a second dose of dry graphite and work on the cable routing a little. If I can find some valve lapping compound I will try to clean and lap the reducer gears and lube it up again. When and if the plastic gear goes out - I'll replace it.
Thanks for all the suggestions and leads.

I have the switch -- you can get them for about $30, and I just ordered the diodes off of Amazon for next to nothing (see link below). The Posi-Taps you can pick up at Pep-Boys, and the wiring taps are so simple even Chas could do it (if you could pull him away from Joan Rivers' bedside, that is...). Of course I'll post a detailed thread on it when I do it. This little job has an all-in cost of under $50.

... and I could do a video, like the new Acura TLX commercial, and have Sid Vicious singing "My Way" in the background. Yeah, I like that idea... I like it a lot.

I am told that Sid bears a striking resemblance to RodKnock at that age.
