Very nice - that looks like it should fill the bill. What cam are you using?

jetblue69 10-11-2015 03:37 PM

Running a Comp Big Mutha Thumpr hydraulic roller. A lot of people give them a bad rap but I've had good luck with them. I do like hydraulic rollers...set 'em and forget 'em!

LodiWino 10-25-2015 11:43 AM

I have a 3.54 differential and a TKO with 0.82 5th gear. If you are running a big cam you gotta keep the rpm's up. Even with this set up, anything below 2,200 rpm goes to a down shift.

According to Peter, they have a year's worth of orders on the books. So, if you are on the fence, jump into the queue.

As an aside, my ERA289 with a 302 has 3.77 gears and the long .64 5th. My ERAFIA has a bored and stocked 302 with 3:31 rear and .82 5th.

Yes. I have ordered an ERA 427 SC and expect delivery in late March of 2016. It was ordered as a roller and will be painted in Connecticut. Lykins Motorsports is building the engine for it, and will also supply the transmission, clutch, etc. It is a long wait but I'm sure it will be worth it!

... and how is this build progressing?

I was just in ERA's shops about 3 weeks back and snapped a few photos...

It's going slower than I expected. The chassis is plumbed with brake lines, and the inner panels are mounted on the body. Some of the aluminum panels are going on the chassis. I asked Peter when it would go to the painter but he didn't tell me. I think I am currently looking at delivery in June but don't really know. Brent is waiting to assemble the engine until we get a little closer to Dday.

I assume that the GT40 replicas were in the queue prior to ERA ceasing production of them?

Jim Holden 02-16-2016 02:24 PM

ERA is finishing up the remaining GTs, all of which I understand are spoken for. They have decided not to do any more for a number of reasons, so, if you want one you will have to look for a "pre-owned ERA" or look to the competition.http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...s/STA70028.JPG

Obviously you don't know about the "secret queue."

Peter built the "cammer" car a decade or so ago. Fitting that SOC lump under the hood and into the frame necessitated a number of modifications. With the gear and chain cam drive, the first thing you hear coming down the street is the whine before the thunder. (Sounds like a lead in to a joke about Miami.)

Standard 427 or 428 for that matter is more usable on the street, but open the hood and there is nothing else quite like it.

If there is an ERA "secret queue," then folks like me with Oliver Twist-like net worth's wouldn't qualify. ;)

To quote Peter, "For anyone who can write a check, where's the challenge?" "If you can't write a check and http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...s/IMGP0538.JPG find a way to do it, that's something spectacular."

Large Arbor 02-16-2016 04:29 PM

I understood the golf one and the silver one were in for minor work. The red one was being finished before being shipped to France. I drooled over all of them including Peter's cammer. It did fit very tight but looked like it belonged there. The ERA guys are all great.

To the OP you want to get with Brent of the gearing. This will have a cam in it. That cam will not like low rpm. How low is low is the question and Brent will know.

My only other suggestion is the speedo. I would get the electronically driven speedo. It is driven by the speed sensor that comes with the TKO. The cable drive unit is a POS. If you are going for authentic this might be an issue but I thought I would throw it out there for what it is worth.

Good luck!

Just ordered a Slabside for delivery in about 12 months, 12 agonizing, painfully long months. It will be a street cruiser.

I could use some feed back on drivetrain, currently thinking: 302-350/TKO600-.64:1/3.31:1 rear dif. I was originally thinking 380 to 400 hp but at ~ 2300 lbs that is a lot of power for a street machine.

If anyone has built one I would like to hear about engine builders, recommendations, issues, things you learned as you went...etc

Many thanks

My wife and I own and enjoy the first ERA slabside. I will try to post some pictures later.

With a 3:31 rear you want the .82 fifth gear (See earlier post)

I'm running about 350+ hp with big, wide sticky tires & it's pretty manageable. You'll get a lot of varying replies. You'll have a lot less tire on the ground with a slab. I personally think 380 would be a lot, if you aren't cautious behind the wheel.
