Default Jag Handbrake Rebuild

Bob,

I've got the rear suspension out of my car for unrelated maintenance and while it's out I've been looking at my Jag inboard handbrakes. They haven't functioned well enough to hold the car on an incline in a long time.

I've got one of the EB calipers opened up and the self adjusting mechanism definitely needs work.

In nearly all of the other handbrake related threads that I could find through searching the forums you reference detailed rebuilding instructions for the EB calipers that you could email. Can I get a copy, please?

Here is a few sites that might help you out. I have been wanting to rebuild mine for a while.
I am getting tired of putting it on the lift removing the cotter pins and adjusting it about once a month. From the 1st one you can find his other videos on you tube.

Thanks COBRAMAN. I found the series of youtube videos you posted shortly after creating this thread which cleared up my confusion, but I hadn't seen the other source, which is very helpful.

I was confused when I opened the caliper because I have the old style pawl and it wasn't seated where it should be. As a result, I couldn't picture how the mechanism worked, but the video made it apparent.

I cleaned up the teeth on the ratchet gear with a file but there is still some wear where the pawl engages them. I'd like to replace the gear just so that a $10 part doesn't cause a failure on a part that requires so much time to access. I've found a couple places that have it listed for sale, but they're all out of stock. I have a feeling it's been discontinued.

I think I have a few laying around. The one set of pawls and adjusters look brand new.

Your best bet might be a bone yard. I have a spare rear end that has some on it but I am saving them for spares.
