I sure do wish Kirkham finish that damned manual!

I can't find my spare tire!
And where are the USER1/USER2 buttons on my motorized seat?
Not to mention I can't program my THX 7.1 stereo.
What if my kids want to watch the DVD player in the Kirkham's headrest but want the sound on the stereo?!
Excatly what is my towing capacity, anyways?

Maybe we should get GM to write the manual

If you're building kit, you need a manual. If you buy a roller, you'll be fine.

My apologies to the OP for the intrusion.

rodneym 04-20-2016 11:36 AM

RodKnock!!!!!!

My battery died and I'm locked in the Kirkham!!!!!

HELP!!!!!!

:LOL::LOL::LOL:

I could do this all day, but I shan't.

As you well know, writing a quality service manual is almost as hard as building the car to begin with. That's why they abandoned the effort, it was simply too difficult and the average Kirkham owner really didn't care all that much anyway.

RodKnock 04-20-2016 11:44 AM

Its been a while since I checked my oil, what area of the Kirkham is the dipstick located and how exactly do you pull it out and re-insert it into the dipstick tube without missing the opening of the dipstick tube?

Gosh, I wish the Kirkham's had a manual.

rodneym 04-20-2016 11:46 AM

Maybe Kirkham simply got tired from building the best Cobra on the planet. ;)

Yes, definitely a missed opportunity, but maybe some future Kirkham buyer can take solace in knowing that there's a 300 (+/-) page book/manual that was made for Larry Ellison's Billet 427 Cobra:

Kirkham Motorsports - Leading manufacturer of aluminum bodied 427 and 289 replicas

Among other things, isn't this site supposed to be like a service manual for all of us?;)

patrickt 04-20-2016 11:56 AM

Yep, that's really going to help when they're just trying to replace bearings and races and they have no part numbers.

rodneym 04-20-2016 11:59 AM

That's OK.
David K is the most accessible builder/owner/operator this site has ever seen.
Besides, with a company like Kirkham, whose improvements are dynamic, if there's an improvement to be made, it will happen and he'll pick up the phone.
When you go to Pep Boys to buy your Camaro (now made in China) parts, well, you know the rest.

You mean the bearings and races that typically have the part #'s actually stamped into the part? Those bearings and races?

I know where mine is. The spare tire for the Cobra, OTOH, is quite another matter.

ZOERA-SC7XX 04-20-2016 02:53 PM

I did all the build on my ERA with the exception of bonding the body to the frame and powder coating of the frame. The manual was priceless in this project, and also let me know what had gone into and on my Cobra. It sure saved many hours of labor. The car is solid and doesn't have a single rattle or vibration, and drives like a dream.

Dimis 04-20-2016 03:25 PM

ERA's manual is definitely great... And the info and content in it is terrific.
It got me even more excited about building a cobra.
In the end I cheated a bought a roller. Who was I kidding, I can't build Lego.

Kirkham manual would be a nice piece to own, it's a shame they don't really have one.

Better check the FL DMV regs on registration. You try and register a "turn-key" replica in CA and you are screwed. Not to say you can't, but say good-bye to the emissions waiver and God only knows what safety features you will have to add to get it to pass inspection - again in CA, all states handle replica registration differently.

ASO544 04-21-2016 05:51 PM

FL has really easy registration procedures ..... Definitely not a California . We have no inspections and as long as you write them a check or swipe your card you can register about anything!!!

What's the latest build number for ERA? Highest I've seen is in the 700s.

My ERA build which is getting close to delivery is 812.

patrickt 04-22-2016 04:51 AM

ASO544 -- pop your deposit check in the mail today. You can always get it back if you change your mind, but reserving your place in line won't start until Peter sees your money. With a little luck, you'll be driving it Summer 2017.
