Tecalemit grease gun

So I picked up this Telcalemit GB 2800 gun off ebay. It's in pretty good shape, but I want to repaint it.

Anyone know the paint code?

Also, does anyone have the exact mounting location on the top of the passenger foot well?

I never knew a paint code but I’d call it close to Robins Egg Blue metallic. The metal flake is very fine. There’s a lot of variation in Robins Egg paints out there, so try and match it as close to what’s on your gun now.

Two different paints were used but we don't know the why or when for sure. It might have been related to which main cylinder style was included.

The old thread in the AC Owner's Club site has been lost in a website incident but I created a album in this forum to put some of my images in.

Thanks Dan. I did find that old AC thread and read through it. Pretty amazing how many different Tecalemit grease guns there were. Based on that thread, I think the one I bought would be correct for a slabside Cobra.

They are easy to overhaul and some functional repairs are easy. Many part designs didn't change except for nozzle tube length or material so I have been able repair some Cobra correct ones with parts harvested from more common models.

Paint wise, top original car restorers try to match whatever paint is left on the cylinder they have in house. Because there was variation over time painting every cylinder today exactly the same would be historically incorrect.

Fortunately, there's enough paint on it to get a good idea. I'm thinking of powder coating it. Good idea, or not?

I never intended to put grease in mine, so I didn’t worry about restoring the internals or making sure all the seals are tight. It’s days of greasing anything are over!

Hi, if you want a perfect match for the paint try "Hammerite rust cap" blue, made by Kilz. I found it on E-Bay and it is almost the perfect color match. Just make sure you shake the spray can good before you use it. Spray on several light coats.

This is the product I was referring to, I called it hammer tone, because that is the finish you get, yes several light coats, it IS a perfect match

I ordered a can of Rust-Oleum hammertone blue which looks close. I'll do a test spray on some metal to see how close it is to my gun.

Dang that Hammerite is $22 a can!

So the Rust Oleum light blue paint is too light.

Purchased the Blue Hammerite and will see if that's a better color.

So I cleaned, sanded and painted the body today, using the Hammerite light blue paint.

The match was nearly perfect, The paint can cap is a bit darker than the actual paint.
