The engine for 838 is done and home. I will get it dressed and the bell dialed in while I patiently wait on ERA to finish the car.

A QT bell will be dialed in before lunch time. A Lakewood takes all day, sometimes a week, occasionally a month or two.

Impressive results - 650 lb-ft torque and nearly as much HP. That should scoot it down the road.

838 went to Big B for paint on 10/24. He estimates it will be painted by end of February.

Then ERA has to do some magic. Car should be ready for pick up end of May.

That's great. Do you have the bell housing dialed in yet? I guess you're not going to just fire it up on a stand to kind of hear it a bit before next spring comes around.

Bell dialed in some months back. It was farther out than expected. Around .010” runout.

I used the Lakewood weld on kit that positions the dowel holes in the correct location. It ended out at about .001” run out.

Nothing to do until ERA sends rear end parts for assembly.

Alright. Have there been any changes since the last little one, which had to do with the steering mount rack mounts and was around #752 or so, that you know of?

did you opt for the ERA rear end? Talking with Peter he said the foundry they used for the hub carrier burned down and he was trying to source a new place to make them.

Yes - ERA rear is on my option list.

Peter told me the same, but thought the issue would be resolved by the time my car is ready.

838 was returned to ERA on 12/27 from Connecticut Custom. I love it. The colors turned out perfect.



Peter didn't know when it would likely be completed at this point. He will advise later.

After speaking with another ERA owner that found a way to mount a more correct ratio steering rack, I plan to do something similar. Flaming River will sell a rack that is nearly identical to the ERA spec rack with 15:1 ratio instead of the standard 20:1. This is much closer to the original Shelby steering ratio and nets roughly 2.25 turns lock to lock. The only difference is the input pinion is longer.

I will see what Peter says about it and then do it locally if needed. I have a good friend that has a Bridgeport in his basement and he confirmed this can be done without taking the disassembly of the rack. It seems like a no brainer for a new build. I have to buy a rack anyway.

My wife and I plan to take the Cobra on the Hot Rod Power Tour in June.

I am going for the 60’s sports car feel.

Original Cobras were 2 turns lock to lock. My 2012 Mustang GT is 2.25 turns lock to lock - yes that is power assist.

That's a beautiful car ! The choice of color is different than most, really stunning. Connecticut Custom did my black FIA, you will love the quality of their work.

Keep us posted on the process of the steering rack swap, I did the same research with Flaming River and was contemplating the swap too,
