Original Style Alternator
Anyone install an original style alternator (C5TF-10300-F) on their ERA with an FE? Any issues?

I have the Delco part number called out in the manual which I purchased the NAPA equivalent. I was looking for something that looked more original, I don't like the one I have that is cast in chineseium...

This article may shed some light on your issue
Shelby & FE alternators
I put a 45amp 1G on my first car and found it often 'discharging' because the alternator couldn't keep up with the amperage requirements. Went with a hybrid on the second build. 100amps and most people can't tell the difference from an original

As I understand it, the main case is the Ford 1g. The rear of the case comes from a GM vehicle. With that, they're able to pump out 140 Amps. Take a look at the Tuff Stuff site for more details and info
It will fit an FE, depending on the heads used. Clearances get pretty tight

You can build a "1G" to about 70 amps without changing the original type case.

I have a Powermaster 7078, which is a 75A direct replacement for an original alternator. It works well in my ERA with FE.

That's the one I was looking at... the 55A is all I need. What was tricky about the fan? Also, did you have any issues with your belt alignment?

Craig did the installation so I cannot comment on the belt alignment. We used old school Ford pulleys and I do not recall there being an issue. My understanding is that the original BB cobras used a high-performance pulley / fan on the alternator. Finding that was not easy.

Now that I think about it, Craig may have made to make a spacer for the pulley. I am sure if he sees this he will comment.

I do not believe they offer the correct fan/pulley for a cobra. It is almost impossible to find a reproduction, never mind an original...

Yes,
They are had to find. You can use the standard single sheaf pulley from a T-Bird (63-64) or Lincoln of the same vintage. The last N.O.S. large diameter pulley we had went for over $600.00! Dearborn Steel Tube did a run of repops some years ago for the Thunderbolts, etc. but they have dried up. We would entertain doing a run if we could sell at least 50 units at somewhere between $100.00 and $150.00.
This is with the smaller diameter pulley which we have some original, used units. We also have the round case 1G alternator cores.

The alternator pulley on Kevin's car required a bit of work to get everything fitting, I had to squeeze every bit of clearance I could to pull the alternator back towards the engine block.
Both the water pump and crank pulleys need to be spaced accordingly to the alternator pulley.
It all worked out great on Kevin's car with enough clearance on the shock tower etc.
