Default Bouncing Speedometer Needle - fixed

Some years ago, Patrick posted how to lube the speedo cable and grease the reverser in his ERA.

838 had a really bouncy speedo. It went from 0-40mph when I started rolling. I lubed the cable twice to no effect.

The reverser in 838 doesn't have a grease fitting like shown in Patrick's post.

I decided to "force" some grease in by putting a 3/8" hose over the end of my grease gun and putting the other end on the speedo side of the reverser. I was able to get the grease to come out of the cable side of the reverser. I stopped as soon as I saw the new grease coming out.

The speedo needle is now completely steady.

838 only has about 5k miles and the needle has been bouncy since day one. I assume the reverser was not greased enough from the factory.

I didn't take any photos, but I think my description is clear.

So do I still get credit for fixing your reverser?

Yes - you get credit. I didn’t think it could cause the bouncing. I was sure it was the cable.
