Just listed ERA 2080 for sale
Decided to restore my 65 Sunbeam Tiger ex race car, so listed my 289 FIA in the classifieds

I am sorry to hear that you need to sell your FIA in order to restore the Tiger. I am anguishing over the same thing with my Tiger. For what we are seeing freshly restored Tigers close for on BaT, it just makes more economical sense to sell what I have and buy a restored one based on the cost of having it restored. That is unless you are doing the restoration yourself... even then, I am expecting that to be a bit pricey.

I may change my mind and offer the Tiger for sale, but at this point, I'd rather sell the Cobra than the Tiger. Worse comes to worse, I'll sell my Trailex trailer instead and open up enough space to work, and maybe even buy another 2 seater convertible :cool: Bill S. |
That's is good to hear. I, on the other hand don't have the time nor space to restore the Tiger on my own as I would prefer to do and am forced into a decision of sorts on how to proceed.
As a young man out of college, my dream was owning a GT350 if which I wasn't able to afford at the time and settled on a Tiger which to me was the next best thing that I could reach for. I remember putting away $100 a month or whatever I had available after rent was paid until I had accumulated enough to buy my first Tiger for $12,000 back in 1992. Many wrinkles and gray hairs later, I still love that little 2 seat convertible. Good luck restoring the Tiger. It would be great to follow your restoration process. Realistically, it's not a full blown restoration, the car is a car that has been tracked in it's past, and I'm not changing any of the modifications, but enhancing them, mechanically it's at 90%, body wise it is 100% rust free, cosmetics, it's got it's chips and extremely minor scratches, interior/top 90+%, in my Tigers case it's the details like a working wiper set, horns, and heater/defroster that really need to be looked at. My worst case scenario is a replacement of the wiring harness, which I already have along with new Lucas switches. It's this worse case scenario I would need the extra space for. For now, I'll drive it as it is, doing minor upgrades here and there as my time and space allows. |
I see. Good luck with the project. It would still be great to see some photos of it when you have an opportunity.
