Unhappy Brake light help

Bob....I need some help. I recently changed out an old style MSD box for the new 6AL set up and while we moved some wires around I don't think we disconected any wires to speak of. That was about a couple of days before the Mid Amercia Shelby and Ford meet in Tulsa Ok. While loading on the trailer someone noticed I had only the passenger side brake light working. Now that I'm home I find I have running lights on both sides and passenger side turn signal but no brake light or turn signal on the drivers side. I have checked all wires I can get to....switched the bulbs etc.....but still nothing. Any suggestions appreciated.

Electrically challenged,
Gary

Gary,

It may be just the bulb. The signal and brake lights are on the same filament. If the bulb is good, check the wiring to the socket that's not red - It'll either be white or green. If that has power, you may have to fiddle with the socket contact plate. If it has power, go under the dash and check the wires on the "Trailer" side of the relay (the side with 2 wires). If the appropriate one is dead, the relay may have died. By the way, it's more reliable to test by pressing the brake pedal, not by using the signal light.

Default Part Number for relay

I'm having a similar problem as the original poster. I've checked the relay and it appears to be failing just to the left rear brake light and turn signal. The problem is the relay does not have a part number or manufacturer on it. Could someone suggest a replacement part number and a distributor or store where this item could be purchased. The car is a 427 replica that was hand built by a gentleman in New Jersey, it is not a kit. Any help is very welcome.

Thanks,

Brian Warren

Brian,

I would first check the bulb/socket of the none-functioning side. Switch the output wires of the relay, so each goes to the opposite light.

The relays are available at places that specialize in trailers or from good 'ol JC Whitney
