Default R and R camshaft

Bob,
Do you know if it is possible to remove the cam with the engine in place? I was thinking if I remove the radiator I may have access, but the cam may hit the cross member on the frame. Possibly the motor mounts could be loosened up and the engine tipped up a bit in the front??
Thanks, Steve Dickey #606

Steve,

I've heard that it's been done but we've never attempted it here. You're right- the engine will have to be raised off the mounts. Some transmissions may present a bit of a clearance problem at the tunnel.

Bob,
This is fantastic. When I checked the computor this morning I had your reply and an e-mail from someone who has done it! I have one more question, I recall reading somewhere at some point in your production you added the cross member to the frame. When did this occur?? This individual did not have to jack the engine off the mounts so I am now wondering if their car had the cross member in place.
Thanks again Bob, I appreciate it, Steve
