Got my taxes back & went shopping at ERA
I decided to go with the ERA rear assembly with outboard brakes. I also ordered the pindrive accesories. Peter never seems to mind accepting money. Why is that?

I dont mean to be stupid, but can someone explain "outboard " brakes? I am not familiar with the term.

Dane,
ERA uses a Jag independent rear suspension. From the factory, the Jag brakes were placed inboard near the center section (ring and pinion) unit. The brake pads can be hard to get at to replace when worn (ERA actually has a panel in the interior that can be removed). The brakes also tend to heatup excessively under racing conditions due to a lack of air flow. As an option, ERA offers a custom Jag rear assembly that moves the brakes outboard to the wheels (like other rearend setups). Easier to get at and run cooler in the wind stream.

Glad to see you guys are getting things sorted out for the nice weather. Any idea on delivery dates? I too have been sorting out the car, new valvue cover caskets, oil leak on AF fiting from the oil filter conector to oil cooler, all learning experiences. I sort of miss the idea of a build, but then I can work for a day or two and then go dirve.
SSSnake are you going to have the car complete for Carlisle in May? or to the revolution in June? If so look foward to meeting you after our talk in Pittsburgh.

Goal is to have the car painted for the DVSF III in June. In a couple days the car comes back apart to start paint prep.

Last week Peter said that my frame was in the jig. When finished it would go to the powdercoater (approx. working 6 days) then back to get body assembled & bonded. My kit is pretty bare at this point with just the rear & pin drive hardware added. I don't know how long it takes them to do this kind of work. I would guess no longer than a month to a month.5. & then the real work starts. At that point it is really more or less dependent on $$$. I'm thinking a year from now I will be close to driving....I hope!!?

I put my depsit in about 3+/- months ago. I was amazed that they could get started on it so quickly knowing the reputation they have for being so back logged. Now I'm just trying to scrape up as much $$$ as I can in order to include as many parts as possible on the initial shipment.

The outboard brakes only cost a few "pintos" more. (Peter will explain the pinto concept).

PS: The brakes on ACs were inboard, but in racing tend to get covered in oil and difficult to change pads, etc. in the heat of an event, even though there is less "unsprung" weight.

Can you get the ERA rear with a 5 lug wheel or do you have to use the 6 pin?

Chaplin, It's only money! Besides, you'll feel so much better if you go the pin drive route!  I did! Of course it's just that much longer I'll have to wait to finish the car

FYI-
I spoke to Bob and you can get the ERA rear with the 5- lug. I did get 5 lugs, but I got the pin drive Trigo's with the adapters. Best of both worlds. When I want to go really fast, I can put on bolt on wheels
