Question Help! - Leaking Brake Fluid Reservoir

I filled the brake fluid reservoir last night and encountered a problem. Fluid leaked from the line attached to the reservoir. Attached is a picture of the reservoir. Fluid appeared at the end of the rubber covering the line.

What's the fix?

Rick,

I am not sure if that rubber piece is just a cover or what. I don't have it. If you can slide it down do so and take a look at where the line screws into the chamber. A lot of them are just compression fittings and they will leak occasionaly. Easy fix is to take it off and redo the end of the line or just try tightening it a little and see it that stops the problem. That is what I did and mine hasn't leaked a drop now for over three years.

Default Leak fixed - Thanks, but have a new one.

Ron,

I was able to stop the leak with some hose clamps. Not quite a slick looking as it was, but it works.

That's the good news.

Bad news is a leak at the clutch slave cylinder. May just need to tighten the banjo bolt.

I'm heading back out to try it now.

Hi Rick,
I also have small hose clamps on that hose, it will leak without them. As for the clutch slave I'm sure when you tighten it up it will stop leaking.

Ron,

Just for my information, does that hose actually go to the reservoir and the brake line then goes into the hose ? I haven't seen one like that and as I said, this is just for my own information so I will know what it is if I ever see one again.

Default OK - No leaks now

I've been swimming in brake fluid all day, but finally all the leaks have been fixed.

Ron61,

It appears that there is a nipple on the side of the reservoir over which the rubber hose fits. At the other end of the rubber hose, the hard brake line is simply inserted. I can't swear to that, because I didn't remove the hose. That line supplies fluid to the clutch slave cylinder.

Good to hear from you. It seems the problem with the clutch slave fittings was that the line was wedged against the frame and between some other lines. As a result, the fitting was not sitting perfectly flat. After a few adjustments, refittings and swear words, I finally got it just right. I was on my last try when it quite leaking. Lost almost a liter of brake fluid in the process. Also had leaks at the front calipers because of my own stupidity. I had attached the brake hoses with the wrong side against the calipers. (See my motto below.)

Should be firing the car up soon. All the assembly is done.

Rick the fun is just beginning for you, I have been chasing an ignition gremlin for about 3 months and finaly found my MSD box was on its last leg ( got 20 years out of it). If the weather in texas has been anything like its been here then you haven't lost much driving time. I'm looking forward to hearing about your first driving experiences with your new ERA, keep us posted. Ron

The hose you see in the picture feeds fluid to both front and rear brakes as well as the clutch slave, I have up graded to separate reservoirs like the orginals had. Finish line sells a very good set up and with a little plumbing you get the security of 3 systems.

Ron,

Actually the reservoir (kind'a-sort'a) is three systems. The side fitting comes off half-way up and feeds the clutch - if the clutch gets flakey you know you're running low on fluid.
There is a separator in the reservoir, making two sections feeding the separate master cylinders. Since the reservoir is clear, it's easy to see the fluid level too. Not a bad system.

Although we sell the separate reservoirs too.

Bob I guess thats way I never had a problem with the original ERA reservoir. The main reason I switched was for the looks
But I must admit its starting to get tight in the engine bay area.
