Default Chicagoland ERA owners

I have just purchased an ERA basic kit and would like to hear from any builders in the Chicago area. I am in Plainfield, Il. This is the first car that I am attempting to build and would welcome any advice or tips that will help keep me out of trouble.

Not in Chicago but the inlaws are in. You will love the kit...I would recommend that you ahve them paint it and do everything you can afford to...you will not be disappointed its really easy to work on.

Good luck.

Matt

Ron,

What have you purchased that would be a "basic" kit from ERA?

Knowing that info would help direct you to people that can assist in the build.

Jamie, Kit has frame, body, interior, wiring kit, radiator and fan, front suspension less brake rotors and calipers. The frame has been powder coated black and has fuel tank installed. I will need to purchase complete engine, trans and rear end and rear suspension along with tires and wheels.
Any suggestions on good source for FE engines would be helpful.

Ron

Ron,get the rear from ERA also,It might save you alot of trouble in the long run.It is easy to install or have them do it,if you buy one used from someone else make sure its all done or you'll might spend as much chasing it with new parts. Its a great kit with great support and easy to build.Congrats

I did my own rearend, didn't save enough money to make it worth my time and my ring & pinion and LS were good. If i did it over I'd buy the ERA custom rearend. I haven't had time to tally up what my engine cost but if you have to piece one together and you're not building it yourself I'd check into Gessford or Southern Automotive building you one.

Buy the rear end. I would also think about having it done as a roller and painted by ERA. For the cost of their standard paint job you are going to be hard pressed to find someone in your area to do it for that cost.

Give Drew or Rob a call at Keith Craft Motorsports in Dallas for the engine. The just built a 527 Cu In stomper for an SPF owner in your area. I would suggest you call everyone and get prices from everyone for all the engines you might want. You can go NOS, New Guinesses Blocks or shelby blocks...cost will be a factor.

Good luck.

Good luck...
I bought a CSX on a whim wanting to do what you are after.
Talk with George Anderson at Gesssford re a FE the man is honest and knows how to build a good big block.
