Default ERA 289 FIA, 351w and Webers. Will they fit?

I'm looking at placing an order for an ERA FIA in the near future. I'm currently building a 351w for it and just wanted to make sure that there is enough clearance with the increased deck height to fit Webers under the hood.

Thanks,
-Andrew

Andrew:

You can check, but I seem to remember that a 351W, which is around 7/8" taller, will give you clearance problems with Webers with the ERA. The 289 will work, I think, as I have seen them on the ERA 289 FIA car.

I know that Webers will work with the 351W on a Unique, as I have used them in that manner in the past.

Question Speaking Of Webs

Cal,

I know you have given out a "good starting setup" for 48 IDAs on a 289 or 302 and I saved in a "safe place"

Would you post your "starting setup" again and I will put it in another, even better, "safe place". I am talking about the best size for the various jets and the emulsion tube.

Thanks

Dave Lowell

ps How are the Three Amigos doing on the Remington book?

Default Webs

The one I am thinking you posted was for the street, which is the one I would like to secrete away again, but I will gladley take both and lable them appropriately.

thanks

Default Webers on a 351 in an ERA FIA

I think you may run into clearance problems with the Webers on a 351W in an ERA FIA. I have an ERA FIA with a 351C in it - and the Charley AND the Webers were BOTH a tight fit. Here is a shot of where they sat when I started:

After seeing how close they were to the underside of the hood scoop, I had 1/4" milled off the top of the intake manifold (carb mounting surfaces). There are other pictures in my gallery showing the Weber manifolds, before and after cutting. The engine shot with the unpainted block (and one cast-iron and one alloy head) is before I cut the intake.

The 351C deck height is 9.2"; your Windsor is likely 9.5" - if you can imagine the picture above with a quarter inch (plus) of deck height, it looks like you'd be touching the bottom of the hood scoop.

Only way to tell for sure, though, is to try it - but, I think it looks like it might be an issue.

regards,

Jeff

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Looks like I'm gonna be stuck with a 4bbl

Maybe I should scrap the 351 build and move to a stroked 302...

Are there any known 4bbl carb/manifold combinations that do not fit with a 351w under the hood?
