Default ERA Gathering

Maybe we should have a summer gathering of all the ERA cars/owners. What do you guys/ gals think? We can all meet in Petes Parking lot (HA HA).
Seriously, how about a gathering?
Regards,
Mrud

How about Elyria, Oh around the last weekend in June? We could do an ERA corral at the fling.

Default ERA Gathering

Don,
I think that that would be a great place to meet. Lets hear from some other ERA members. Maybe we should post this as a a new Post instead of a thread?

Folks:

From time to time we've spoken about an ERA "reunion". For a number of years a dozen or so ERA owners would get together and spend Labor Day weekend hanging out at the Vintage Races at Lime Rock, cruising the back roads and eating too much.

We've also talked about spending a weekend at a track like Mid Ohio or VIR (probably with some other car club to handle the cost). But the problem has been... finding time to put it all together. The boys up at ERA work six days a week trying to get the cars out and help their customers realize their dreams. And they don't have the time to put this together so it's up to us.

I'm more than willing to meet with other ERA owners located in the greater NYmetro area and talk about "options". Yes, I know, it may just be an excuse to get together and have dinner. A thought might be to try a location such as Chuck's Steak House in Danbury (right off I84. Great steaks... Just don't try to get in on a weekend. If enough folks were to threaten to show up we could arrange for a private room. Heck I might even get Peter P. to drive down and join the group.

Any thoughts?

Jim

I believe you said winding roads and scenery were just as desirable as getting together. I don't think Danbury and those two objectives are entirely compatable. I suggest that you consider Western Massachusetts (Basketball Hall of Fame for instance) and/or Northwestern Connecticut as the rendezvous points. There is much more to see as far as winding roads go, lack of traffic and plenty of charming country culture are added benefits; kinda like the Hudson River Valley if ya know what I mean.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Best regards, Mike

Default ERA reunion

Jim,

Has anyone ever done a demographic of where the ERA cars are located? It would be interesting to find a central location that would require minimal travel for the majority of owners. I hear people talking about Spring Fling that think traveling three hours would be too long. For me, traveling to Elria, OH would be 2000 + miles and 29 hours on the road. A more central location like Kansas City, would spread the distance a little more equally between east and west coasts. Seattle 1,500, L.A. 1,600, Chicago, 500, Dallas 550, Detroit 780, Boston 1,400, Miami, 1460, Atlanta 800 from Kansas City. Of course all this supposes that ERA cars are equally distributed across the US. For maximum participation, a location close to the heaviest density of cars is most logical. However in a democracy, it would sure be nice to give everyone an "equal" opportunity to participate. This is very logical to me but of course I do live a long ways away from most of the Cobra events.

Dick

A get together sounds grand. thought...
The main Reason SAAC bounces their annual event from the West coast to the East coast and then the South and then Central is for the demographic issues. In all likelyhood, 95% of the West coast ERA owners will not come to an East Coast event and Vv.

I do think that the first gathering should be on the East Coast and the Lime Rock Classic Sports Car Race held at the beginning of September is a wonderful keystone event. Sheesh, as it is, there are boucoups Cobras there already for the Sunday Show Day... see my gallery for a snap of them. Cobras were there from Ohio, PA, NJ, NY, MA, RI, VT, NH and of course CT. There were about 8 ERAs as I recall. A really nice one was even for sale.

I would like to take part in any way I can.

Folks:

I think that you all misinterpreted my proposal; it was to have a midwinter meeting (anyone who actually would contemplate taking their car out in the NE in the middle of this winter ought to have their head examined) to TALK about doing an event somewhere else, later this year.

Jim

PS: Last year Peter and I took three cars out (to display) to the Vintage Races at Road America in mid July. It's a great event, beautiful countryside and long open roads. Plenty of room at the track to gather. But it is upwards of 18 hours by truck from World Headquarters in New Britain.

Why do we have to meet to talk about it? Isn't that what we are doing here?

You haven't apparently dealt directly with PEPI Portante. What's missing here is the FOOD! How can we come to any sort of conclusion without a 16 oz ribeye to help?
