For those interested in the shim. Wilwood says they are made up of two pieces of very thin metal with a compound sandwiched in the middle. They are slightly smaller than the pad and you peel off a plastic covering that exposes a sticky back side and that side sticks to the pad. There are two small tabs on the front and two more on the back, these tabs are folded over the edge to hold the shim in place. I recommend that you do goggle search for wilwood and call there customer support. They can give you a correct part # for your pads. Good luck

Ron-Thanks for the advice and part number. The silicone trick stills sounds interesting but the shims may be the way to go.
Chuck-To my knowledge, Sierra is the old "JFZ". Wilwood was in business long before Sierra bought JFZ-but the Sierra stuff is also good quality. My pads, as supplied by Doug at ERA are Sierra's.

Any luck? I tried this stuff. At first I thought it was pretty good, killed 95% of the squeal but now I think the more I drive it's coming back. I may try the glob of silicone next.

Too bad about the experiment, CRC makes pretty good stuff. Please proceed with silicone implants and lets us know how they feel. [Ahem}
I've ordered the Wilwood shim kit as Ron described but it's backordered 10 days. I'm going to bleed the system and install the shims then. The streets are still a mess here so not sure when I can try them but will report ASAP.

I'm curious
I'm wondering about the shim kit you are getting. Any chance it would fit my Sierra calipers? I may call Sierra but I don't really know which model I have.

Call ERA, ask for Bob or Doug and you will get the right answer.
I suspect the Wilwood kit would fit as the Sierras look like the Wilwood calipers.
However, your pistons may be different sized than mine. Come to think of it, I'm surprised your late chassis [665] came with Sierras as I thought ERA switched to all Wilwood for the brake upgrade. I retrofitted mine as I have a very early chassis and had the GM single-piston calipers.
Anyway the guys can straighten this out.

The brake pads on the Sierras and Wilwoods are identical, so any fix will work on both. If you want a template to use the silicone-glob method, I've posted a template here.. I had problems scaling the drawing correctly, so I put in a couple of dimensions. Put the silicone inside the circles.
To keep costs down, we use the Sierras on the 427 and the more expensive Wilwoods on the 289. Both are high quality units, but the Wilwoods are a bit narrower to fit inside the FIA wheels. It's that close.

I installed the antisqueal shims and some silicon grease to the backs of the shims but am still getting squealing once the brakes are warm.
I'm going to be travelling for the next week or so so I won't have time to address the problem further but I'm thinking about a little harder pad. I may try the silicon glob when I get back.
Only problem I see with the silicon glob is that the pads are so close because they only have about 3800 miles on them is they'll probably scrape the silicon off as the pads are slid back into the caliper.
We'll see.
Used the part number 300-8460 and the part was shipped the next day. Fit was good.

Remove the caliper from the bracket first. While the caliper is disconnected, install the "enhanced" pads.

Used the same part number but it must be the green aura that covers everything I do.
Not happy to hear the noise continued in your case. Thanks to Bob's tip, I may go to silicone before I get the shims. My calipers are already off.
Will report when I get something done.

By a miracle, my shim kit arrived, decided to forego the silicone, and I "got something done".
Installed them with disc brake lube and flushed system today.
Just a little minor maintenence to finish and hope to be driving and brake-testing during this week.
Will report results.
Chuck, did you go on the cruise? Any noise?

Cruise went okay.
Yes we went on the cruise and it went pretty well. A few items have been added to the glitch list to work out. Brake noise is still there although diminished by the CRC anti-squeak goo. I didn't get time to try the silicone. The car nearly overheated in construction and slipped out of 2nd gear going downhill. None of the issues are insurmountable, it's good to know what they are.

Chuck, Don, Bob et al,
Tested extensively today on dry, hot asphalt. Twelve stops from between 40-60MPH shifting to neutral and flat nailed them. No threshold braking, no flywheel helping. All stops about thirty secs. apart.
Locked the rears on the last seven stops. Have to be ready to catch it.
Felt like arresting hook. Bit harder the hotter they got.
No noise whatsoever.
If it helps, I used Permatex "Disc brake lube" [it's dark green in silver plastic bottle] on piston to shim contact surface.
Only testing left is 100-0 a few times but I'll need better "test area".
Definitely cured my problem, 'cause I was getting noise during stop/go driving or after two or three 50-0's previously.
Thanks too to Rob who suggested the silicone. Everyone's set-up is slightly different and this just happened to work [SO FAR] for me.
Hope this helps and please share your experiences.
