See this page for troubleshooting the rear lights.

Update,I replaced the trailor adapter,as per trouble shooting guide, now everything works except now the brake lights are on all the time when ignition switch is on.They stay on even if you take the wires off the brake switch. The pink wire under dash is alive all the time when ig. switch is on.Any clues what's wrong now? Thanks

mine was doing that , ended up being the pedal wasnt comming back all the way up to contact the brakelight switch....on my car the brake pedal arm has to come up and contact the switch to shut it off...little bit of lube on the pedal assembly took care of that. hope yours is that easy....

Not that easy on my ERA,They use an elec switch on the master cyl.I don't think the problem is there ,because if I disconnect the switch the lights are stiil on.I'm thinking maybe a bad relay.I'm still tring to figure out where the elec. comes from to power the brake lights. Thanks anyway.

If the wires are disconnected from the brake light switch, the pink wire should be dead even if the brake switch is defective. Furthermore, the brake circuit power is dependant on the ignition switch being on.

I suspect that the "real" pink wire may be hiding elsewhere.

Update ,I stand corrected,if you take the pink off the brake switch it's live all the time that the Ign. is on,thus the brake lites are on all the time. Can the pink get power from the turn signal switch if it is bad?

If the pink wire at the brake light switch is still live even when disconnected from the switch, it must be getting feedback from the trailer relay somehow.

Your trailer relay is designed for a 3-wire car to a 2-wire trailer, right?
