Default ERA Differential outboard brakes

Buying another ERA and thinking to upgrade to the outboard rear brakes. Pros----cons? What is the optimal gear ratio in your opinion ?street some autocross Genisis all aluminum fe with 2 4's tremec 5 speed. Thanks

I like the 3.23 I have. With the high hp motor, I can still spin the tire with no problem, but I cruise at 70 mph @ 2100 rpm. 3.31 would be very similar.

Running 3.07 behind a mild 428 w/TKO600 and 17" wheels. Very streetable and pleasant to cruise with but can't snap the throttle in 1st if I want to keep the tires on the ground.
You sacrifice a little unsprung weight with the outboard brakes on the optional rear end but, having owned a Jaguar at one time, it's worth every penny to have the brakes where you can get to them. Very happy with the performance of the unit.

Don, I thought the same thing about the higher unsprung weight (that was the big claim to fame back in '62), but Bob P (ERA) corrected me, saying that their outboard brake setup actually had a lower unsprung weight than the stock Jag inboard setup...and is a WHOLE lot easier to do brake work on!

Brake work,performance & resale value(not that I want to ever sell)were the big reasons. Looks were the icing on the cake!!!

I opted for the ERA outboard brake option with comp brakes on the front. I didn't want the hassle of working on inboard brakes. With the outboard brakes it adds the look of the original cars.

I'm not sure if it's an upgrade or an option . Both have good points . Better cooling for track brakes , unsprung weight on other

I went with the outboards and adjustible sway bar rear end. Put a Richmond 5 speed running a 2:88 in the rear.

Herb427 Herb, What are brakes? The new game is DRIFTING. If you can leave black marks from corner to corner, that's perfect. Anyway I have the inboards and no problem. Put a couple of vent hoses on the rear brakes and this will keep the heat down unless you have carbon fiber pads, then you want the heat there. Both ways work fine. If you are a TOP road racer or autocrosser go with the outters. What is the wieght savings between the 2 assemblys?? I don't like the brake pad material on my pin drives. Ask Bob P Rick Lake

Rick, did you create the rear cooling vents, or purchase them ? If your made them how did your do it, how are they run and out of what type of material ?

sexzsn8k I got a set from cobra restorer. The problem is ground clearance. They are fiberglass. They just scoop the air up on the rotors and pads. They make them for the fronts and rears. You could get a set from ERA that they use on the FIA car. You would have to modified them to work. You could also close off your foot box air ducts and take the duct hose to the back of the brakesNascar has orange hose that will take the higher heat. You can buy these little fans that fit in the hoses and push the air on the rotors. I don't have a digital camera. If you donot mind a periscope, Don D has a great brake cooler system for the rears.
