Electric fuel pump location in an ERA
I'd like to put an electric fuel pump in ERA 684 and was wondering where people have located them to keep them as low as possible (photos would be nice but just a description will do). Thanks to ERA's foresight the wiring is already installed and all I have to do is add a relay and #10 wire for power. It's so nice to have a car that's been designed and engineered properly in the first place.

Mine is mounted on the frame, just behind the cockpit area and in front of the fuel tank. Works well.

The best place is lower than the tank outlet and behind the tank.

In my ERAFIA it's located in the fenderwell behind the driver's side rear wheel. There is a removable cover to prevent (hopefully) rocks from hitting the pump etc.

Right on WTM !...most people don't realize the "behind" point is as important as the "low" point! Badger

While locating the pump 'behind' and 'low' are always a good idea with an electric pump generally it WILL still work mounted as far ahead as the engine bay. Mount it low of course and that helps. These cars aint 'that long'.
As to the very BEST location, well thats inside the tank itself! :D |

pump in a ERA 289 FIA

If you don't need an electric pump, don't run it...complete pitha. Why I ran one is a long story...a very fresh story as I have just had to replace the Holley Blue pump at 11,000 miles...sounded like a cement mixer from new, and started leaking fuel out the weep hole...the motor shaft seal is gone. This time I used the Holley Red pump...(don't need all the pressure, and already have a regulator) . Your car is a 427 but maybe these photos will give you ideas. I also have a "collision impact" electric shut off switch...mounted on the frame upright just ahead of the drivers door and below the dash...think I got it from Pegasus. Hope I can attach some photos...trying. Pete |
