Default ERA #745 .. seen it?

I finally got my chassis number from Peter P last week .. job should be started or about to start. If anyone happens to spot this chassis during a visit, please post a progress report This kit goes all the way to 'painted roller' before I get it to put the finishing touches on ...

Who's near me in number and where is your car in the process?

714 here. Picked it up on 8/19 of last year. I had the body bonded and painted and I'm doing all the rest.Just put the engine in it today. Expect to be on the road in about 60 days. ERA has been great to work with- they will try your patience at times but it is really because they get hung up by their suppliers. 3.54 rear ends are way behind right now- so if that is what you are getting you might want to check on that. Kit quality is very high. Good luck.

Kramer: thanks! Yes I know what a ping is .. old IP speak .. back in the day when only people who knew all the arcane character based codes could surf the net. Original ping etymology .. US Navy sonar speak for locating someone .. been there too

Red/Dave: sounds like they're still close to one car/week output. I was there last August 18th. probably drooled over Dave's car

I've got a motor, 390FE out of a Cobra that has about 700 mi on a rebuild. Stock short block, honed not bored, and all new Ebrock top end. Will get a new toploader from DKT on order soon and get motor/bellhousing/tranny mocked up while waiting on car. The IRS is a 3:31, tranny is wide ratio, small spline. Still thinking about tires .. want billboard Goodyears, I think. Car comes with 15" 6-pins.

289FIA 2111 here. I thought that I'd replied to your post yesterday, but I must have hit the wrong key because I don't see it here. Mine is presently in final assembly and I'll be going up either the first or second weekend of February to check on it. I can take some photos if you want and let you know how it looks like it is coming along if you want.

No question its worth the wait. Doubt I would buy anything else. Plus we're getting the new body with all the new "goodies". I ordered at the end of May last year. Would hope to see a kit at my door in late Feb or early March. 10 to 11 months. I have a very nicely rebuilt 428, toploader and a set of pin drives that are getting anxious though. ERA 742

Sam,

I think there have been some delays due to the new body and all the new aluminum bits and pieces. ERA is known to be anal about the quality of their product. (this is why we bought one, right?). Peter told me there were some delays mostly due to the new body. Worth the wait to get the best.

I ordered my car about a month ago. No number yet. I'm going the least traveled road with a street version car with rear exhaust and 428FE. Six years in the making and I'll tell you it was worth the wait (to order). Peter has been great. I can't image going or buying anywhere else. My guess is I won't see anything for a while but heck I waited six years, whats another one...

Was also going to build a street car. Actually like their looks better but opted for the S/C for resale value. Drove Peter nuts for a while switching back and forth but I started looking at all the track and club events that I could get involved in with a comp. car (need a roll bar) and...oh well.. If your getting the roll bar you might as well get the side pipes and if your getting the side pipes you might as well get the comp. brakes...and the oil cooler was just a buck or two..and the optional rear end assembly with the outboard brakes would be great for cooling and the 3.07 diff will be great for the long straights at Sebring (Florida here) and blah blah. In the end, its a comp car.

428, welcome to the queue! Kinda scary, actually accumulating real parts now, isn't it? You're actually going to have to build this thing! I was like Red, I ordered the street version .. then I went to Run N Gun in Oct and actually got on the track in an ERA 427 Hung out there for all 4 days, had all kinds of fun .. started at the same time hanging with the Dallas CC. Most of the local folks have SC versions, various manufacturers. Anyway, kind of fell in love with the outrageousness of the SC style .. changed my order

Part of it is realizing how I intend to use the car. I originally thought I'd go on some road trips, weekend away type things, lots of nice roads and destinations in TX and surrounding states. Then saw how people use their cars .. most just cruise locally and trailer to out of town rallies, track days, etc. So I kinda changed my strategy ..

Don't tell the others on CC, it'll just make them mad, but you ordered the best kit from the best mfr out there .. just let that be our secret!

You sound so very excited as I'm sure I will be when I order my own ERA 427street.

Just one question though. What did you choose to do about the roll bar question? None-One-Two???

The car looks so much better without any roll bar I'm tempted, but with some of the idiots out there these days it might come in handy. Since I value my wife so its looking more like two for me. Just wanted to see what someone else came up with on that question.

Best of luck with the build. Since its an ERA I'm sure you will enjoy its quality.

Another option, if you want to maintain some form of "original" look, is a single roll bar to cover both driver and passenger. I have seen photos of racing cobras from the 60's with this type.

Default Roll Bar

sideways, I originally chose *no* roll bar when I had the street configuration. I recognized that that is a more dangerous choice. My background includes many thousands of miles riding two up on a Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. So I'm conditioned to dangerous activities. From that perspective, the Cobra is a bit (not much) safer ..

The other reason I chose no roll bar was the aesthetics of the solution ERA has for the rag top with a roll bar. And I wanted an original looking car. Most of the original street cars (majority of the 427's built) were no roll bar, as far as I can tell (someone will correct me, perhaps). Anyway .. I changed my order to the SC configuration .. cancelled the rag top and went with a tonneau .. and single roll bar. My wife will ride with me some, not most of the time, I suspect .. I do plan on getting on the track at Run N Gun and Tulsa for the fun events. Not trying to be a racer ..

The more experienced Cobra replica hobbists I have met seem to regard the single side roll bar as desirable from a resale standpoint. ERA's tend to be authentic looking cars. I remain a bit conflicted about it. I would probably choose the wide hoop with two legs as opposed to two separate single hoops. That's just what looks good to me. To each his/her own ..

Trust me I've gone back and forth on the street vs. s/c...hell, I've had 6 years to think about it. I am not a speed guy at all but I just love the beauty of the street car. It's like looking at a women with an incredible body...I don't need to explain, we all get it.

I've also been in a couple of s/c's and 289 with side pipe and damn those things are loud and after a couple hour trip your ears are ringing. Not my cup of tea. Most guys love it...but me, I'm on the mellow side.

My other issue is (and please don't anyone take this personally) everyone has a s/c...I just wanted to be a little different. Don't get me wrong I love the s/c car, it's just not for me.
