ERAFIA Oil Filter Clearance
ERAFIA owners:
We put in a small block "Dart" block motor in my FIA over the weekend and the block seems to be wider at the oil filter mount. There is not enough room to screw off the short oil filter off the oil cooler lines fitting. Has anyone used a right angle housing to relocate the fileter straight down? Can the one that aims the filter straight foward be used? Frankly I don't feel like having to use an engine hoist every time I need to change the filter. (And, Yes, yes, I know, at the rate I roll the mileage up, I'll only have to change it once every ten years.) Jim |
I can't speak to the two options you listed, however I know that one of the tri-counties members (SoCal) mounted his remotely on the front tower (the old leaf spring mount). Don't know if that's a viable option for you or not.

ERA has done a remote on their FIA (the "Rush'n") and that is certainly an option, but I was trying to avoid that if possible so that I didn't have to go through changing the present system's lines, etc.... Jim |
Jim,
The forward facing filter only works with a electric fuel pump, the mechanical pump is in the way. In my case trying to use a 90 deg. fitting interfered with the oil pan cheeks. |

For used an OEM adapter that was very compact and anglled the filre at about 45 degrees away from the OEM mounting base. I used it for years before going to a remote setup. It was used on a 460 engine in a Econoline and maybe other installs too. It does not have a thermostat in it but can be modified very easily to allow oil cooler lines to be attached with AN fittings and hoses. It would allow a sandwich adapter to be eliminated if that is what you are currently using. I would still be using it if my header fabrication had been better thought out on my part. Rick |
