smiths gauges and lucas?
In my research via pictures of original street cars all seem to have smiths gauges but the amp gauge is Lucas. To anyone who bought the guage upgrade does the lucas gauge come with the set? I have to assume not but did you buy a lucas one? If so, where?
I hope I not the only absolute freak about these little details...

Most new smiths gauge sets include the lucas ammeter. They were made by smiths for Lucas. Otherwise they are available from Nisonger for under $60.

I wouldn't have replaced my Smiths ammeter, but the face separated from the rest of the gauge (looked like it was cracked in the past and was glued back together). Ah, one more authentic Prince of Darkness component added to the Beast! No one has noticed the change so far. Rich

I too have a Smiths with a Lucas on order via Nisonger. They are like $65 now but if you are the detail type it is correct.........Originals used Lucas AMP not Smiths. Another factoid S/C's did not even use a gas gauge, only fuel psi..... It was common to see a yardstick in the trunk used as a gas measurement tool.

Jeff: So you knew you were out of gas when the fuel pressure dropped to zero? My current setup is better than that! Rich

smiths gauges and lucas?
I believe the SC Cobras with the PSI gauge instead of the fuel gauge used 2 fuel pumps, pump #1 pick up tube was set a little higher inside the fuel tank and when the driver ran out of fuel he switched over to pump #2 which had the pick tube mounted lower in the fuel tank giving enough fuel to get him to the pit stop.
