Default Lime Rock Park Vintage Races - Labor Day Weekend

Folks:

We plan to be at Lime Rock Racetrack Labor Day weekend, Saturday through Monday. Race days are Saturday and Monday and there is the Shelby car show on Sunday. We have reserved two RV spots for those of you who bring your ERAs and want to park with us. Our spots are along the short straight before the bridge and the downhill. We'll have some tents set up and chairs and coolers, etc. so when you get tired from wandering a round, come on over and put your feet up.

Hi Jim-

I plan on being there even though my ERA is still just tubes on the chassis building room floor. Does Peter usually go to this event? Maybe I can finally get my chassis number from him.

Is it me or do the ERA guys purposely exclude non-ERA owners?

Peter (and rest of ERA) have always been very nice to me, even selling me assorted parts for my CCX without issue.

Want to talk exclusion I have one word - Smith's..........

Folks:

Let's set the record straight once and for all; we do not intentionally exclude anyone. By all means stop by... we are all first and foremost car guys (and gals). If you have an interesting set of wheels (or even if you don't) come by and (as my southern kin would) say; "Hey."

Peter (a/k/a PEPI, Mafia, etc.) will be there at some point that weekend. He usually wanders in* late on Saturday afternoon and sticks around through Monday.

Jim

*Hey, he's Italian; no point in arriving for a grand entrance and there is no one around to see it.

Bob in CT:

Sometimes it is hard to understand the tone of email or forum reply but it seems your post has some anger. Maybe you were joking. This is an ERA forum correct? As others have stated you or anyone else would be welcome I am sure but I think you post is out of line.

No anger. The post sounded like ERA guys were welcome and others were not. Myself, I don't care what kind of Snake others drive. My first choice was an ERA. I think they're a top shelf car. If it hadn't been for the 18 month wait and the extra $30,000 I would probably be driving one myself. If I get to LRP over the weekend I'll drop in.

But to my point, this is an ERA forum. This is not a general cobra forum, club forum or anouncement forum...your post just seemed out of line and out of context to me but thats just my opinion...anyway back to more important things....

Jim,

Is this where you will be on Saturday and Monday for the races? I will be up on Sunday and expect to head down to the "ss's" for the day.

JW:

Yes, we'll be in the RV spots on Sat and Mon and down on the track in the "s's" on Sunday.

And again, just so the record is clear; anyone is welcome to stop by and join us. At my age (and advanced stage) I do not have time to waste on "ego" nonsense. Just come and enjoy spending some time with fellow "motorheads." (I appreciate any vehicle that's interesting and the owner has put their heart and soul into screwing it together... even if it has a Chevy* motor in it).

Jim

PS: *Who knows, we may even have a Grand Sport show up...

A True Celebration of Motoring and Motor Sports

LAKEVILLE, CT (23 August 2007) – The Rolex Vintage Festival presented by BMW is by far the most extraordinary arrangement of historic and vintage automobiles, both on and off the track, that the East Coast has to offer. This coming Labor Day Weekend, 31 August – 3 September 2007, Lime Rock Park will play host to classic and historic, rare and exceptional racecars that you don’t see everyday, especially on the race track.

The Rolex Vintage Festival presented by BMW at Lime Rock Park this Labor Day weekend will feature over 200 amazing cars, each with their own cherished story. They will all be strutting their stuff, both at speed and in perfect stillness, as Lime Rock Park concludes the celebration of its 50th Anniversary in 2007.

The event, which is an anniversary of its own as the Labor Day highlight marks its twenty-fifth year, opens with practice on Friday and racing on Saturday, an on-track Automotive Extravaganza on Sunday, and racing again on Saturday and Monday afternoon.

Every car has its own story, and the Vintage Festival weekend brings many historically important and exciting cars together giving the opportunity to tell their story. Here’s a sneak peek...

Masterpiece Collection – four extraordinary cars from the Northeast collection including two Le Mans Winners, a 1933 Alfa Romeo driven by Tazio Nuvolari, a Ferrari TR61 driven by Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien.

Genius of Dr. Porsche – a group of cars all designed by Dr. Porsche including one of the finest Volkswagen in the land and the prototype Porsche Turbo that ran in 1973, but never in the United States.

Plastic Fantastics – a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Lotus Elite.

Outstanding cars - a group of IMSA cars including 935 Porsches driven by an enthusiast group from the West Coast. For example, Bruce Canepa bought a Porsche new and has raced it ever since.

Among the above will also be a great selection of Rolls Royce and Bentleys along with the iconic American woody station wagons of the 30s and 40s. Not to mention the ex Vintage SCC regular, Bill Binnie, a modern pro racer who has won his class at 24 Hours of Le Mans twice including this year. He will be driving a Ford GT40.

As of today, the weather for Labor Day weekend at Lime Rock looks to be classic Bershire weather; sunny with temps. in the mid to upper 70s. Perfect for draggin' out the old cars and heading for the northeast corner of CT.
