Default Oil Filter Placement on FIA

I'd prefer to keep my oil filter on the side of a 302 block as stock. However, I understand that if I do this it requires a short FRAM filter. Couple of questions:

Is this true?
Are there alternatives other than a remote oil filter setup? Such as an offset fitting that points the cooler down rather than straight out.

I really don't want to use the FRAM. If there are other manufacturers that will fit, please let me know that as well.

Thanks,

Doug

The Fram number is there because I've got a big Fram book with all the filter specs. Most places can cross-reference the number to their own brand.

I vaguely remember there was a Bronco block adapter that turned the filter 90 deg. toward the front, but I've never seen one on an ERA.

Doug, A WIX 51311 or a NAPA 1311 (both made by WIX) will fit nicely. Enjoy your car, they are great fun.

If you are not using a mechanical fuel pump Ford Racing offers an adapter that will turn the filter 90 degrees and lay it up next to the block & timing cover.
