Question Richmond 5-spd Problem.

I have a Richmond 5-spd in my ERA..............at times it is hard to get into gear smoothly...........don't know if maybe the clutch is not disengaging completely...............lubricant problem.............linkage adjustment or what it might be.

I would appreciate any ideas anyone might have as to what I might check!!!

How does it go into gear with the engine turned off?

Dee...Glyn here.

Can you give us a little more on some specifics? e.g. Any particular shift more difficult than another? Does it happen ALL the time, or just occasionally? Is reverse particularly difficult to engage? How long has this been going on?

When my clutch was on the blink during the Texas Hill Country run we just had, the first symptoms were difficulty getting into reverse!

Put the car in reverse with the engine off.
Push the clutch to the floor and start the engine.
How far up must you release the clutch before the car starts to move?

Default Richmond 5-spd Problem.....

To all,

None of the gear shifts are any more difficult than the others................going into reverse is probably the easiest.

I'll check the things noted in your responses tonight...........will reply back with answers tomorrow!

Thanks for your ideas.........

Well if reverse is the easiest that just about rules out the clutch or hyds. How old is the Richmond in there, how many miles are on it?

Hi Dee!

Might want to check the fluid in it. Sometimes if synthetic is used the synchros don't work too well. They usually work better with STD gear lube.

If you want any help please give me a holler!

Dee,
I have no info. on your post, but if you need someone to crawl under and look around let me know. You don't need to be doing it until your back recovers a little more.

Default Transmission Shifting Problems

I don't know if your transmission uses Dextron or not but on my Corvette I switched to Dextron VI and GM syncro goop and solved a "sticking" shifter problem. I was about to tear into the transmission when I read this solution on the C5 site and it worked great.
