I guess I was scanning through his story to fast. Have you spoken to David Keys about and checks you could do before removing the transmission?

It looks like #61 (the many needle bearings of the counter shaft) only the length is different.....but not by much.

I did ask David about pulling the cover and things to look for, he simply said send it back to him and he would fix it, no speculation on what could have caused this. The transmission is shipped out on fed ex tonight. I have asked David to let me know what he finds. It still has me puzzled. With the trans on the floor and the cover off I could engage 2nd, 3rd, 4th but not 1st and when trying to turn the input shaft nothing moves, locked up!

ok, I just spoke with David and they are in the process of tearing down my transmission. 1st gear is definetly siezed to the main shaft is what I am told at this point. I guess thats why I was able to move the car like it was in first even though my shifting forks were in nuetral. He does not know why yet at this point. I did have the new 2.9 ratio first gear but David did not think that is part of the issue. He said he had 150 gears made on the first run and has not had any problems with them. He will be fixing my trans and replacing the first gear with the last one from the first run.

OK, recieved transmission back from David today and it is going back in tonight. I didnt get an exact reason why 1st gear was siezed onto the main shaft, but he did take care of the problem. I am connecting the drive line now. I dont remember on the ground strap, Is it connected to the bolt between shift levers on the main case or on the bolt on the tail section?

I have mine on one of the bolts that hold the trans mount to the trans.

Just a follow up. I have put some miles on the fixed transmission and it seems to be working fine now. David quickly rebuilt the transmission the day they recieved it and sent it right back. He could not say for sure what the cause was as to why 1st gear seized but possibly an oil passage problem? Any way I am looking forward to enjoying the car now and fine tuning the rest of it.
