Default distance between inside of tires

Can someone provide the distance from the left inner edge to right inner edge for the rear tires for the 427? For the front as well? Also the distance from outer edge to outer edge for both the front and rear tires?

I was not able to find this information on their site. I'm trying to determine the spacing and width of ramps for a 427.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Ray

RAO-3

The dimension you are trying to obtain is one that will change when different tire sizes are installed on a given car. The constant is the center to center dimension (Track) that is typically made avaiable. In other words, put on wider tires and 1/2 the increase in tire width goes to the inside of each tire (from centerline) and 1/2 goes to the outside. Then, take into consideration that the track on each Brand or make is most likely a little different and capable of accepting different size tires. You'll get many different answers. I hope this isn't oversimplified?

Look in my gallery and you'll see some homemade ramps that I built. Do a search under "Poor Man's Qwik Lift" and you'll see the write-up.

The "center to center" dimension (center of each leg of the ramp's pedestals and bridges) for my SPF is 47.5". Your ERA may be slightly different but in that ballpark. Also don't forget to compensate for the rear track being wider (that's why the rear pedestals are dimensionally wider).

Rick, I understand your point, but was hoping to get some numbers to use for "order of magnitude" purposes. I'd settle for the track distances as well, and just make the necessary adjustments.

Dean, I will definitely check out your gallery and postings.

Thanks

Ray, I just read your post and went out to my shop with a tape measure. I measured tread outside to outside; rear with P295/5-R15 was 68" and front with P235/60R15 was 64 1/8". Inside tread to tread for both front and rear was 46". My car is a very early ERA (#002) and has the Jag rear. Also keep in mind that the rear fender flairs stick out well beyond the tire tread. On my trailer the tires go up the ramp fine but I have to watch that the fender flairs don't hit the trailer sides.

Dick, thanks so much for the measurements, this is exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks for the tip on the fender flares as well. I do appreciate them.

How is your cobra doing? Yours is by far the earliest that I'm aware of.

The old girl shows her age a little but has been a pleasure to own. I am the 5th owner of the car and have done a few thing to make her mine but she is still pretty much as she came from ERA.

Thank you so much for sharing the pics, it's good to see that your ERA is still doing so well!

I'm hoping that my build will be starting soon.

Good luck with your build. Keep your favorite Cobra picture on the wall in your shop and every time you get discouraged by something about the build use the picture as motivation. Just think about how great it will be to have "YOUR" ERA on the road.

Is 02 the Don Durner special?

If so that dog is proof that ERAs can be run hard and put away wet.

Jim I don't know of any connection with a Don Durner for 02. The car was ordered by Bruce Bissonnette from Worcester MA in 1980. Then owned by David Page in Narragansett RI and sold to Gail Rhoten in Runnells IA. He sold her to Doug Ford in Ohio who sold to Paul Solomon also in Ohio who I bought the car from. I haven't been able to contact Bissonnette or Page so it may be possible that there is a Durner connection back in the beginning.

Actually, I am not certain of the Durner chassis number. It was your picture of the car in "racing setup" that made it look very much like the way Durner ran his car.

Default Don's car was a low rider

Jim Holden Don's car was a low rider. Maybe 3" off the ground. I remember because we cracked the oil pan in New Hampshire in 2001. He left 8 quarts on the crude on the track. No damage done to his motor. What a mess. Was not his car with the periscope one year?Rick L.
