Would you leave them "aluminum" or paint the outsides satin black?

i think i would
paint them black......or have them powder coated...the aluminum is going to pit and tarnish. Ask them to use a 3m pad and satin the aluminum like the brushed look on a kirkham.
I really like the scoops but something looks odd...I don't know if its too much aluminum and needs to be painted or they need to be toned down?...maybe someone will photoshop the scoops black for you?

Leave 'em!
They look tough. Painted will look too finished... IMHO

Jeffy,
It's tied... the ball is in your court.
The second picture is from underneath and you won't see it from that vantage point.

In the second photo your looking at the scoops from underneath the car. When it's sitting on the ground you won't have the same vantage point, so the aluminum won't be as noticeable. Not even as much as the first picture. Obviously it's your call, do what you want.

Mine are glass. I assume yours are also? I like em' black, but you could probably figure that out on your own... After a couple miles they'll look dirty anyways

Folks should know that the scoops are fiberglass, not aluminum. Thus, powdercoating would be a challenge...
Jim
PS: The owner's vote is the only one that counts... (Not that it matters, the scoops on my FIA are painted a grey/aluminum color... I like the contrast and "purposeful" look).

Hi Jeff!
What scoops? I can't get my eyes off that paintwork....
OK I can see them now. So, opinions? I would paint them (inside/outside) the same or similar to the wheels. I know, it's a Cobra replica, and subtlety isn't in their dictionary, but its an FIA replica without stripes, not a 427 with look-at-me stripes (apologies, you striped 427 owners), so you don't want the scoops to yell at you too loudly, do you?
Did I mention.... nice paint?
Cheers,
Glen

Glen-
Don't be fooled by the indoor lighting and John's camera. In person, outside, the paint has no orange tinge at all. Still, it is a nice paint job, but a little less "look at me" in person. A little.
I also think the scoops will look more subtle outdoors when viewed from more traditional angles.
Anyway, I'm not going to make any changes until after Peter P. takes it to Carlisle (that's the annual kit car show in late May). The ERA team loves how the scoops look, so they can take it to the show that way.

Jeff,
My vote is try them silver for a while, it's a nice contrast with the red and black and should look even better when the car is on the road ... you can always paint them later if you like.
Just for reference, here are some photos of CSX2323 and the brake scoops were painted the same color as the car … not sure if they were like that when the car was raced back in the day. That being said … it looks good too.

Obviously I've been a big fan of your car for a very long time, but I personally don't like the silver. FWIW, less than $0.02, my opinion is black or body color. To me, it detracts from the front visual.
The ERA guys are experts though and I would trust their opinion more than mine.

Jeff,
I’ve really enjoyed your build and love the color of your car but I agree with RodKnock on this one as well. I’m definitely having mine painted to match the car.
BTW – Tim, Those are great shots of #146 – Do you have anymore? I’m currently building one to replicate #146 and would appreciate more of those if you have any. Take a look at my photo gallery…

Thanks, Kevin! Sounds like there is a real difference between seeing it in person and in photos, because you went from "all black" to "leave it alone" once you saw it today. I'll probably take delivery a week from tomorrow. Oh, joy, rapture! (Bonus points: who said that??).
