I happen to see the 64 Targa...
As was mentioned, all the cars (Transporters and Ranch Wagons) were painted Princess Alice Blue ..... I have heard the Shelby didn't think that name appropriate so he changed the name to Viking Blue. I thought it was curious that the race cars had California Plates on ?? I don't have anything against Red (in fact CSX2323 after it was rebuilt and sold to Tombstone Shaw was painted red) but why didn't you go for the Blue ??

Bartfuff1 ... you mentioned Tombstone Shaw in your post . Back in the mid/late 60`s when I raced Porsches at VIR , there was a driver who raced a Cobra at VIR . If my memory is correct , his complete name was Graham ( Tombstone ) Shaw and the Cobra was orange ( ? ) . It may have been Rangoon Red as that color has an orange tone to it , so maybe I thought it was orange . I just remember holding on to the wheel hard as he blew by me on the back straight . Is this the same guy ? Just curious , if so , what happened to him ?

I like the blue, too, but I like red better. Of the 16 FIA-body/cutback-door cars built, at least one was red, this customer ordered car pictured in Friedman's Shelby Cobra: The Shelby American Original Archives 1962-1965:
Also, some of the early factory cars were red, like CSX 2129, one of the three Sebring cars:

That must have been him...and CSX2323
With a name like that, there must be a story but I don't know what happened to him....I have a Portofino Blue Superformance with a red nose bar that I intended to look lilke the Gurney/Grant car #146 and when I was doing my "research" I would come across "Tombstone" quite often, but I haven't got around to digging up the story (Google?). CSX 2323 in it's original livery is at Bruce Canepa's Museum in Scott's Valley Ca. It was a riot to see those cars in the 60's. The Italians had never heard a big (289) American V8 and they would just go nuts when the mechanics would start them up. I might see Bondurant this winter and if so I will ask him.

You had a unique and trademark experience with Tombstone....just Google Graham Tombstone Shaw and you will find him. He was a realestate developer in the south and raced in the 50's and 60's almost killing himself and retiring . You can find him on the drivers list at VIR....

I'm a little late on this but; as for a top, I bought one with my FIA and have had it on three times. The first time was just to make sure it fit and I knew how to quickly get it on. Really a PITA when it's already raining so I just drive fast and pull the carpets if I get caught in the rain. The side curtains make a significant difference all by themselves for reducing wind buffeting noise and rain exposure. I'd definately get them again.

What mechanical tach drive distributor would you use and where would you find it??
Thanks!

Tach Drive Distributors
These ACCEL distributors show up on EBAY occationally. Be careful because I think that the 289 to 302 units are different than the 351 (longer shaft ? due to the 9.2 blocks vs 8.2) . I don't know for sure.
I think there is a picture in my galley where you can see the distributor. I'll post a picture of the dash. If you would rather have a 3 5/8" unit, I have several.
Rick Parker may have another t-drive distributor. He seems to have this kind of neat stuff. That is where I bought mine.

Ready for Tony!
Body bonded to the chassis and ready to go to the painters. Is there a better looking car body than this!?:

You're getting there -- once it comes back from the painters you need to start a new thread for the mechanicals.

Another idea I picked up from this beautiful 1956 AC Ace is to add a towing eye front and rear, like the one next to the right bumper:
I also like how the side roundels are further back and overlap the doors.

One gauge that is particularly hard to find is this 2 5/8" Stewart Warner fuel pressure gauge; if anyone has one for sale, or knows of a source, I'd be very interested. Thanks!
