Default It drives!

Took it off the jack stands today.. Drove it out of the workshop. Reverse gear is a little noisy.. Any ideas?

Just going in to gear, you mean? No synchos on reverse -- put it in second and then reverse for a quiet entry. No big deal.

Could also be the spur gearing for reverse. http://www.howstuffworks.com/question522.htm Still, if the forward gears are doing fine I wouldn't worry about it.

Lookin' good. I hope you find the reverse gear problem. Always a few little issues when you build your own car. 'Aint it great?

patrickt gave the solution, I always go into third and then reverse never a whisper. I hate when I hear someone grind the gears, it is to simple to avoid.

Looks great! Pretty standard to put the car in a forward gear and then revese as Patrick suggests - I need to do the same thing with my car to avoid noise.

Looks great! Check the linkage adjustment, making shure the linkage is not hitting the trans. What type trans are you running?

Looks Great!!! I had 2117 out Saturday and Sunday am for quick runs to Biscayne Bay. Slip it into any "forward" gear, then reverse. No problem. Enjoy it. Rick

Like the others said, I slip mine in third before reverse and it never makes a sound.

Very nice Cobra, congrats and enjoy the ride!

Guys:
Thanks for the compliments! I can't wait to get it out on the highway.. It's been a long time coming.. I started thinking about this project in 2005!

Snakebit :
I'm running the problem free TKO 600 with a McLeod concentric throwout bearing (install was a lot of fun!).

I am also running the TKO-600 with the McLeod CTB. Easy to set up, bled it with a vacuum pump. Works great. Used the floor board as a pedal stop as per Doug@ERA's advice.

iwantacobra427: Do YOUR neighbors still like you?

I fired mine up for the first time with headers only. Fortunately, my neighbors are not-so-close.

Doug:
That's funny you ask.. A co-worker of mine was over to see me drive it out of the workshop.. he told me later that some woman (nearby housewife no doubt) was on the other side of the wood fence trying to see what the source of the noise was! I'm running the Comp Cams 280HR10 cam and AFR 185 heads.. It has a nice sound! I think the 205 heads would of been too much..

Well, if you were wondering what to buy your neighbor for Christmas, you can always get her a set of earplugs...
