Chuck - Ozgur

Very nice example and Viking Blue certainly 'looks' better than Princess Blue

I have to say that out of all the things one has to decide upon for their car, I think making color selections is the most difficult and subjective.

If you can, pick a few of your favorite colors and get decent sized samples of them, then look at them over the course of several days. You will find that you will be able to eliminate certain selections that way until you end up with one. At least that is what I did, and every time I see my car, I'm happy with the choice!

Best of luck to you

Ray

Ray,

A good suggestion and a timely post!

I got a call from Diane at Connecticut Custom yesterday and some paint samples are on the way. I am also having lunch with (2) car buddies tomorrow, one with an Indigo blue SPF, the other with a late model Mustang in Vista blue, for a side by side comparison. Between the paint samples and the car comparison, that should do it. I am getting input from my wife as well, which helps a lot.

What's the latest on your car ... made it to 'the lift' yet ?

RAO-3 01-14-2010 09:13 AM

Hi Tim,

Of course be sure to let us know your final decision on color.

#775 has been on and off the lift a few times now and is quite close to being complete. I haven't been pushing them to finish it as they are waiting for the side curtains and can't install the top without them; from what Peter told me yesterday, the side curtains are being made now by their supplier. Given the weather here in the northeast, I wouldn't be able to drive it anyway.

And you don't like my blue??? :D
Hey, check out this link on the FFR site; LOTS of blue. :D

This is the older thread:

And the newer one.

Not sure if you can see unless you join. Dozens of cars in the first thread though. If not, maybe we can meet for lunch...

Herman,

Wow ... now this is a list of Blues !! :D:D

I took a quick look, and might have seen some of this before, but will take a much closer look this evening ... very cool !

I'll PM you later.

Thanks!

tkb289 01-14-2010 10:24 PM

Herman,

I slowly went thought both threads ... whew! Some of the photo links were broken, but a fair number are still valid.

A lot of great 'blues' out there and good looking cars too. There are few of the really dark shades of blue that I especially like and with the names and paint codes, it helps out a lot.

Thanks again for the lead.

Wasn't someone asking how to block out for a roll bar & make it look nice? I think this is a great way to do it! Wow!

Tim,

My ERA just left CT Custom. I had ordered about 3 different blues and 4 different whites from automotivetouchup.com and painted them, with stripes, on business cards. I put them on my dash and looked at them every day going to work. Here's what I picked:

Toyota/Lexus Indigo Ink Pearl 8P4 - PPG 5775
GM White Diamond Pearl GBN - PPG 5851

I liked the way the Indigo was very dark on one angle and transitioned to a medium blue at another angle.

Well I had lunch with (3) car buddies (thanks Lane, Herman and Michael) and there was a good range of blues from medium to dark ... three beautiful cars! Herman's Nissan Daytona Metallic Blue FFR, Michael's Vista Blue '07 Mustang GT and Lane's Indigo SPF. All three look great, the first choice for us so far is the SPF Indigo.

Hyde,

You are right, this is a very clever way to way to cover roll bar holes, Greg M did a great job. I might do something similar, as I will have (2) different roll bar set ups (single hoop or full width hoop) and will have a roll bar hole to cover up. There close up photos at Greg's FFR build ...

Also, this beautiful FFR is Lexus Indigo Ink Pearl/8P4, which is the same color Mooch has on his freshly painted ERA !

Wow ... nice combination! Looks like Connecticut Custom did a great job. I bet you can't wait until you car gets back to ERA and put together!

The Lexus Indigo Ink Pearl really looks sharp, and the White Diamond Perl adds a very good contrast. This Lexus Indigo seems very similar to the Superformence Indigo, which I also like.

Just curious ... what were the other colors you were considering?

Does anyone out there have any side by side photos of a Cobra with Lexus Indigo Ink Pearl and SPF Indigo ??? I like them both!

Mooch 01-16-2010 06:15 AM

For the blues, I considered Toyota Blue Ribbon Metallic, Spectra Blue, and Indigo Blue. For the whites, I considered GM Arctic Blue, Toyota Blizzard Pearl, Ford Wimbledon White, and GM White Diamond Pearl.

I chose the Indigo because I liked how dark in was at the far end and the contrast to how light it gets at the point of reflection. Good contrast.

Of note, I think the SPF Indigo is GM Indigo 9792/39 - PPG 4717. It is only found on their Kodiak and Topkick work trucks, other than the SPFs.

The whites were actually harder to pick. For the flats, the arctic was a very bright white while the wimbledon was too creamy for my tastes. I wanted a shade between the two and was looking for a metallic/pearl paint. The blizzard pearl is a bright white like the arctic, while the white diamond pearl worked perfectly. I thought the arctic and blizzard were too white - i.e. the stripes popped out too much so you didn't see the blue first. I think the stripes should accent the main color, not take away from it.

Here's a post I had about the white paints when separated:

Picking colors for your Cobras - it doesn't get better than that, does it?

*13* 01-16-2010 09:17 AM

That's a lot of thought for racecar paint! When a man knows what he wants, he knows what he wants! I bet it will be stunning!
