Congrats Tim!! I am so happy for you, it is finally time!! No more trying to keep up in the TR going to Alices. I too can't wait to see it running in person, it is truly shaping up to be a great new year!

Andrei,
Thanks ... will need to get some of my checklist items done before the first run to Alice's ... but really looking forward to it! I'll still probably be the last guy there, but not as far behind as with the TR ...

Congrats on reaching this milestone, Tim! The car looks great. I just put mine away in the basement for Wintertime enhancements while the fridged weather and salt trucks have their way with us here in the NE. You are now carrying the torch!
Enjoy!
- Allen.

Tim: I know you're busy but ping me when you get chance to borrow my air-cleaner base before you go to the BAR.

Great Job
Great to hear you finally got it on the road. I can't wait until I'm up in the bay area when we can go on a cruise together. We're starting to making plans for Laguna Seca in August. I hope your planning on being there.

Thanks one and all for the comments ... time for a quick update.
Been going over the car tightening things up, looking for leaks and the like. Working on the interior, will be cutting the hole in the transmission tunnel for the shift lever. Originally was going to leave the tunnel bare aluminum, rather than covering it with carpet. Now considering powder coating the entire transmission tunnel a satin black, similar to the paint on the dash. Will see how it looks, I have the carpet so can always go that route at a later date as well.
Want to move the driver's seat back a little more. It's OK as is bolted to the floor, but think I can get just a bit more room. The TOP expires end of March, so need to get going on the inspections. Got the hood back on and aligned, starting to look like a complete car. Come Spring time should be ready to go!

Looks awesome Tim!
Come spring you'll be ready to go? No rain in the forecast and you've got a TOP that's good until March. Put some miles on your new baby.

I agree Doug! Tom the car is looking great, almost time to shake it down and try some short breakfasts and get some miles on it!

Hey Tim, you can't tell me you're busy at work! What's the word? Your TOP has expired. I sure hope you got it registered!!! (And if so, we're going to be at Baji's on Saturday.)

Just about done !
As Herman pointed out the TOP (temporary operating permit) expired the end of March … so what's up?
Well … on Friday 3/30 I was at the Santa Clara DMV with a stack of papers and in less than 20 minutes was out the door … with the plates
My experience with the whole California SPCNS / SB-100 program is that it worked very well. A lot of this is due to the trail blazing done by many here on CC and also due to well informed folks I interacted with during the process at the various government agencies. What was required was well spelled out up front in a checklist I got from the DMV and by following the procedure, it was not that difficult. I think the agencies that deal with this program are getting better at the process as well.
Since I already had my SB-100 number issued last year, what I had left were (3) inspections:
- CHP VIN verification, which I went though at the Dublin CHP office. The inspection officer was very professional and courteous, no issues at all.
- Brake & Light inspection from a shop recommended by Steve (PANAVIA), again very professional and easy to work with.
- BAR Referee station (at Skyline College) and the key inspection item there was the closed PCV system with 'Emissions / PCV' stamped hoses.
That brought me back to the Santa Clara DMV where Jody, who I believe is the manager and again very courteous & knowledgeable, went through the entire stack of paperwork and kept the MSO, SB-100 certificate, CHP / B&L / BAR certificates along with a few other forms. In return I got my pile of receipts back along with the plates and tags … done and done !
What's left … a few cosmetic items, a run up to Tom at FE Specialties for the 500 mile oil change and once over of the motor (check the valves, adjust the carb and so on), then ride height adjustment and full alignment.
Do I like it ?? ... oh yeah !!!

Really looking good, so glad that things are working out with the DMV, as that can be the most frustrating hurdle for all of us.

Thanks Doug ... no doubt more power to be had with the FIA pipes, but the ERA recommended mufflers fit nicely and sound pretty good

Thanks Ray.
I agree ... The DMV process can vary widely, sometimes even within the same state depending on who you might have to work with. It's probably one of the most tedious parts of the whole process, but one that has to be done.
