Default FFR DIY paint job

We've (my two boys and I) have been working on the body work and preparation for paint for quite some time.

I sprayed the stripe color on last week, then taped off the stripes and sprayed the color and clear this weekend.

Was pretty nervous since I've never painted a car before, but am pretty happy with how it turned out. There are some nibs and other flaws, but hopefully most of those will come out when we cut and buff.

Well done, sir! Time to update your avatar! What were the colors you chose?

Nice! Very nicely done for your first time! Plus it has to be fun to have be a family project

I really like the louvers on the hood, that is very neat.

Is that your downdraft booth or did you rent a facility?

This is a booth at a local community college. I had to sign up for an 8 week continuing education class for $205.

I thought that was a bargain. Tried to find a local paintshop that would allow me to rent their booth but no one was interested in allowing that. Can't say that I blame them.

That doesn't look DIY to me. Especially the louvers and tilt front end. Nice work.

I don't remember who it was that posted that local community colleges sometimes offer that option, but we appreciate the idea!

We were thinking of building a homemade booth but this was much better. For us anyway.

Thanks for the nice comments!

Quick update, we recently test fit the body on. Still need to cut and buff, but it's starting to take shape. Hope to be on the road soon.

Doesn't look half bad. You'll notice more flaws than anyone else. & rock chips from normal driving happen, so be proud & enjoy!!!

Default Tilt front

A couple of shots of the tilt front open.

This will make it easier since I have to pull the engine and send it back to Ford Racing for some warranty work.

I love your vents. Looks like we had the same idea. Mine is stripped down and heading to the paint shop tomorrow. I'm going with 2010 Ford Sterling Silver Gray with Black stripes.

Skip, that's going to look great! The silver with black stripes was my 1st choice too, but at the last minute I changed my mind.

Did you do the bodywork?

The gaps look really good, and of course I like the louvers.

Have you layed out the stripes to see how the louvers and scoop line up? I found that area to be pretty tricky.
