Unfortunately, some owners use, or misuse, a VIN tag to misrepresent a car. Seems common with Mustangs adding a Shelby American fender tag with GT350. Adding an AC Cars Ltd tag to a replica could lead to the same thing by a future owner. IMO, it would be nicer to leave off the tag.

I don't think you have to worry about that with John.

Well, all I've tried to do was build a reasonable facimile of a 289 Cobra. I don't portray it as a"real" Cobra. There is no csx # anywhere. The Factory Five vin # is stamped on the AC tag and also on the frame. On a close inspection anyone would know this is not an original. I'm sure you are a lovely man, but "IMO" this is much ado about nothing.

I think you have accomplished that goal. Quite remarkably I would say.

I think you've done an admirable job, but I'd agree with A-Snake, and remove the AC VIN tag. But that's just my humble opinion.

Well lads, I greatly appreciate your compliments. But Jim an Rod, as I absolutely respect both of your opinions, I respectfully disagree. I am not, nor would I ever be deceitful or devious. I have loved the little 289 since it first came out(yes I'm That old) but couldn't afford one then, and certainly not now. This car is a replica, as they are called now, a tribute car. I have not, nor would I ever present this as an original. A huge percentage and probably the majority of replica owners use Cobra badges, Shelby American and AC vin tags. That is why they sell them. Should they all remove them? Would they? I think not. Jim your request that I remove the AC tag is probably the best compliment that I could receive. But the resemblence is merely superficial. The car is plastic, the chassis is a Factory Five, the rearend is a straight 8.8 axle. Stevie Wonder would know this is not original.

Regards,

John

My Kirkham will never be confused with an original for three reasons. One, my Cobra is polished aluminum and Cobras weren't delivered to customers that way. Two, all Kirkham badging has been left in place and will remain that way. Three, my Cobra never leaves the garage, so no one will ever see it.

While we rarely want to let our cars go, there will come a day when your car is sold. And maybe sold again and yet again. It's those owners down the road they may or could be mischievous.

Neither here nor there, your car is gorgeous.

Naw, he can't leave well enough alone. This is what it looked like before he ripped it apart and rebuilt it:

I remember that car. Is that the same car? Wow, I would have built two cars.

Since he seems to be going back in time, will the next iteration be an AC Ace?

I absolutely love your slabside. Perfect blend of everything - including the color. Is that Dark Ivy Green Metallic? My '66 Mustang is that color. Love it.
