Brake booster?
I bought a FFR about 4 months ago. I love it!
However the brakes are something to be desired. I already have the 11-inch rotors on. While it does stop, it doesn't stop how I would like it. From what I understand putting the brake booster would make a difference. It appears that the booster would not fit and some fabrication or cutting would have to be done.
Before I explore this idea I want to check on possibly getting a smaller booster persay. The car weighs under 2,000 lbs so I assume the booster on a Mustang would be GREAT but is it needed for such a light car? Could I get away with a smaller booster that would fit snug? From a smaller car.
I am just checking my options before I start dealing serious dough into the brake system. What I don't understand is why didn't the engineers at FFR just make it possible to fit one. I'm not an engineer but this seems like a simple solution to the brake issue. I am tired of taking forever to stop, Just the other day I had to hit the brakes hard and I realized that I wasn't going to stop behind the crosswalk and towards the end I hit the brakes harder and the wheels just locked up. Either they lock up or don't stop the car in time. No in-between. Well I also found out about another problem, upon hard braking the upper control arms can be pulled out. I went to accelerate and I almost found myself into the middle cement island.
While l am frustrated I know this problem can be rectified. I still love my FFR! The doors is a whole other issue! I will just have to wait when it is time to repaint then order the new ones.

Jason,
Using the stock booster is the least expensive way, but it does involve some cutting and welding.
BT has an electric power booster from Buick GN installed in his car. There are a couple of FFR's using this system as well.
Are you going to be at the 5 & Diner tonight? I'll tell you more about it.

I plan to be. I will be driving the Jeep. I figure I can add some CLASS parking it next to the Cobras..ha ha ha
..Besides a Cobra is there anything better than a Jeep? What else is there in life when you own a Jeep and a Cobra?
Well I got the upper control arms in place but it pulls to the right so Friday I am taking it in for an alignment at my buddy's shop. Looks like I will be saving $50.00. Just saving money where I can.
*I was just hoping to avoid CUTTING and trying to go with a smaller booster if at all possible. While I would love to have the racing set up that Gordon offers, my budget tells me different or is that my wife? *
I don't expect much other than I want to stop on a dime or less.

The only newer jeep that is worth it's salt is the CJ-5.
Other than that it is just a chrysler.

Thats rough Mike! Your one of those die hard "Real Jeeps have round headlights" kind of guy!
I wouldn't mind getting rid of my current Jeep for an old Willys though!
I was wondering do you still have to cut into the car with a Buick GN electric booster?

No cutting necessary for the GN Booster. I believe you need to drill out the mounting holes thats all. Even use the same brake accuating rod.

I am running a Lincoln Continental Hydro boost master cylinder in my Mk1 Cobra. Stopped so quick that it used to pull my front end alignment out until I made a way to lock down the A-arm better. It is just wrong to have a fast car like a Cobra and not have stopping power on par with acceleration power.

Check out this option, I have it installed on mine. Easy to install, great stopping power, little effort. - http://www.abspowerbrake.com/ehpm.html

I guess I'm not the only one with a thread sorting problem here in the FFR area... This thread is 7 years old!
