Idle-Eze is a feature on newer Barry Grant carbs (can be retrofitted by changing the baseplate and doing some minor drilling on the carb body).

It's an air bleed valve in the center of the carb that does the same thing as drilling holes in the butterflies, but unlike drilling it's completely adjustable.

It didn't appear to do squat for me on my mild-cam engine, but it's a huge timesaver (and saves having to do things like replace butterflies if you get the holes too big) with cammier engines.

The reason you never heard of it is that Holley's ain't got it.

No. It acts the same as changing the main jet but only on the idle and transition circuit.

Thanks, but now I'm confussed ! If I have to turn the idle adjustment screws out more then 1.5 turns to get the highest rpm at idle and this is wrong...what do you do? The difference between 1.5 turns and 2.5 is almost 100 rpm at idle and the motor idles around 800rpm w/ a comp 282s cam. so what's do I do next?

Normally, idle mix screws should not have to be turned out more than a turn and a half or so. It's possible your engine really needs that much fuel at idle, but in most setups it's an indication that something else is wrong.

Were the carbs new on this engine, or were they previously setup for another engine?

Backfiring out the carbs is a sign that the engine is too lean.
