Thanks Jerry & Rick,
I've checked and rechecked the three important measurements and all of them are as they should be.
I've fixed the pilot bearing by removing both parts and reversing and then reinstalling the inner bearing into the outer, before reinstalling both into the crank.
I have measured the lateral float at the very end of the gearbox shaft without the seal in place at roughly 1.0-1.5mm. Is that normal or excessive?
Is the input shaft seal anything special or should I be able to get a suitable one from any seal supplier?
