Default ATI dampener is off FE's

Hey all,

I am curious to find out from those of you using ATI dampeners how off your TDC is in degrees.

Also, what you guys have done about this for correction i.e. simple and memorize or purchase tape and reline.

My previous balancer was about six or seven degrees different than my Romac. I put both on top of one another at the kitchen table and lined up the key slots and it was clearly apparent that the two balancers had factory TDC marks that were entirely different. After installing the Romac I used a piston stop and painted a new line on the timing pointer to match up with the new TDC mark on the Romac.

It's very easy to check if it's off....if so, you can just use some MSD timing tape and stick some new marks on there.

Normally about 7 degrees off. Really easy to address. Use a piston stop to properly locate TDC. Then use a die grinder/cut off wheel to trim the factory FE pointer back to the matching position for the marks on the damper. No need for tape or memorization. Take longer to describe than it does to do.

What ever you do ---don't make any cuts or new notches/marks on the dampner if it is an SFI and you race the car---

The ATI degree issue is mentioned on page 84 and again on page 117. I should have shown a picture of the modified pointer - but did not...

Mine was off about 7 to 8 degrees. I used a set dial verniers and measured the distance of 71/2 degrees on the damper and scribed a line at 71/2 degrees before TDC and filled it with white paint. I also painted the marks at 27 and 31 for full advance depending how I want to run the motor.
