Sleeved Block?
Hey all
I'm by no means an FE expert, so I've got a couple questions for those of you in the know.
Are there any issues with a sleeved FE block?
Can it be re-sleeved?
Is this common practice?
Would you buy a used block that was already sleeved?

A couple of sleeved cylinders should be fine. From what I understand, you may not want them all to be sleeved.

Nothing wrong with a sleeved block if it was done correctly.
However, if you're going after something like a 390 block, they're plentiful enough that you find another one that hasn't been sleeved. If you're going after a S/O block, then sometimes you do what you gotta do....

I had the same question when buying my 427so a few years back and the best answer I got was that " the sleeves are stronger than the original casting and remember all those high dollar aluminum blocks have eight sleeves and no one bats an eye about it."

This block in question is a S/O.
Are sleeves available for it?

Sleeves work great if properly installed. Poorly installed causes problems. Lots of standard issue shops do not pay attention to what they are doing. Too tight a press causes cracks in the deck from the OD of the sleeve to an adjacent head bolt hole. Too loose or no limiting step will allow the sleeve to drift down under head gasket crush load.

Be very careful with sleeved 427 FE blocks. Most do not do them right or know how to do them right. Like Berry said it is all about how they were minstalled and why they were installed. Did it have a cylinder completely blown out or what. Must have a step at the bottom in my opinion to hold the sleeve in place. I feel that there are even certain ways to drive the sleeves in so that you do not crack the block.
Make sure you are buying it cheap enough to fix or that they will stand behind the block.
