I change them once every two years: either ACELL or Mallory wires with spiral cores, 8 mm.

If it makes you happy. You know Jerry, you kind of remind me of Foghorn Leghorn. I can almost hear you whistling Camptown Ladies and saying "That boy's about as sharp as a bowling ball."

Thanks for all the advice. I think I will probably go with Taylor 74061 Spiro-Pro Plug Wires (8mm). They are black, custom fit for FEs with over-the-valve-cover routing and I'll use Undy's suggestion of heating up the 7mm looms to make it all fit. Nothing against Moroso, they just didn't email me back.
And I may take Elmariachi's suggestion of wiping off the lettering, we'll see how they look.
I couldn't really find any 7mm stock looking wires that seemed to have the same technology as the 8mm wires and I prefer a pre-made custom fit wire. See, I am not such an originality slut that I can't make a few concessions.
If I get any flak, I'll tell them that Jerry said it was OK.
Now I'll just plug those into my 44 year-old distributor and be ready to go.
Oh, and yes they will be routed correctly to prevent cross-firing of 7 and 8.

Please do. Ditch the blue wire looms too while you are at it since you have upgraded to black wires.

FWIW, I never had a single cross fire (that I know of) between 7 and 8. Ever. I just switched the order on the loom around so Jerry would quit bugging me.

I'll just use the same can of black Krylon that I plan to use on the distributor cap on those pesky blue looms. What's funny is that I bet I've had at least half a dozen PMs over the years asking me where I got those "really cool looking" Ford Racing looms.

Each car is different and in my case, I wound up shortening a few of my Taylor wires to clear the steering shaft etc. I also noticed that the boots like to cook onto the plugs and if you aren't careful you'll pull the end off. So I run a tad of dielectric grease to keep 'em "moist." No issues and they look good.

I always use a bit of dielectric grease and haven't had issues.
Oh, the Taylor tech guy says the wires should fit the stock looms without even heating them.

I'm quite fond of puss-3310. BTW, there's an urban legend about painting your distributor cap and it causing voltage tracking, etc. I think that's basically a crock o' shi*. Although I won't go with metal-flake. I think a black semi-flat will do quite nicely.

I'll just carry the old red one in the trunk. In fact, I do carry a spare rotor/cap in there anyway. If I paint it and the car runs like crap, I'll just switch in the other one. Chances are though that it will be because I put the wires back on wrong. I don't know how many times over the last three decades I've done that -- even on four cylinder cars. For some reason, it's like my mind turns off mid-way between switching over the wires.

I run the black Borg-Warner $12 GM 454 cap on my MSD 8594 and I keep a spare in the trunk too; the MSD likes dissolving the carbon button ever 2000 miles.
