The paint's going to cost you $5 and it's not going to look nearly as good as buying a new cap. Skip the paint, spring for the extra $7 and buy the new black cap. That will make us happy.

But I think that elM's funny looking BW cap has the goofy little window in it that we used to stick the allen wrench in to and adjust the dwell. Plus, it looks kind of shiny, and I think I might like the flat black, or satin black, look better.

Aren't there other caps that fit? Mine is fairly shiny, by the way, since I went with a brass contact version and not the original motorcraft or autolite with aluminum contacts.

Next you are going to looking at all those red and blue fittings......

MSD makes a nice black cap...... but I don't believe it fits the 8594.

Doesn't this fit?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-84333/.

Looks like it would and I found it referenced in an MSD installation PDF for your part number distributor for Ford FEs....

I don't see the reference. Are you confusing 8433 with 84333?

Yes, that is the cap and it is shiny. I don't like the points window OR the shiny finish but haven't had time to research whether or not there are other caps that might work. I just liked it because it was cheap and readily available. I am not running HEI boots on my wires, which is what is required for most MSD caps and the link Doug posted.

Maybe you could try dusting your cap with some of that Krylon?

I guess it wasn't very clear what I was getting at. I think that they may be interchangable. The FE distributor literature that I gave the link for lists the right cap as 8433. But if you read the MSD instructions, it tells you that 8433 will fit all GM applications and the instructions are the same for both 8433 and 84333.

"The PN 8433 Cap fits all of the MSD Distributors that use the GM Socket style cap (MSD PN 8437). It will also fit GM Distributors that use a “window” style cap."

http://www.msdignition.com/product.a...95&terms=84333 (even this link shows "84333" although it mostly focuses on "8433")

I would call/email MSD tech support and ask whether the caps are interchangeable as it appears they are.

Yeah, I think it probably will fit. BUT... I already have a new MSD cap on my engine and a never-been-opened MSD cap in my trunk. SO... I'm going to be bold and innovative and go the paint route. Of course, I'll take pics....

FWIW from MSD:

"Note: If you need to adapt your spark plug wire boots and terminals to fit the towers of the PN 8433 Cap, MSD offers a kit of nine boots and terminals, PN 8849."

You can exchange the one you have for a nice, understated, correct, black one.

EDIT: Or sell it to someone on this forum when their button blows up. That shouldn't be a very long wait.

Be sure to buff the cap AND your nails first.

I'll be sure to buff the nail on my middle finger... and then, of course, display it prominently.

Yes, that would be appropriate.
