Default Best FE head gaskets?

I have the heads off and want to do this once. Which are the best head gaskets? 10 to 1 compresson. Edelbrock RPM parts.

fel pro 1020
cometic CGT-C5840-040
SCE copper gaskets SCE-034324 (self sealing, no sealant)

Put them on dry? or with sealant?

Thanks.

I also know some folks that have had success with these after the Felpros failed (twice):

Victor Reinz gaskets, the VR2000 series, steel core, teflon coated with 1.45" x 2.40" port sizes. The Car Quest part number is MS 15166X.

Anyway, for the knowledgeable folks that offer advice on this thread, maybe they can also include these in their comments. I'd be interested to know.

Hey Doug, head gaskets, not intake...

I use the Felpro 1020s and have had good luck/sealing with them. I think Keith, Brent and Barry use the 1020s too. I'm scared of coolant leaks with the 100% copper gaskets.

Felpro 1020's....

The secret is to order the Ford Racing part number....

What you get is a set of Felpro 1020's in a Ford Racing package (even still says Felpro 1020 on the head gaskets) and you save half the money.

Felpro recommends a dry installation, with good clean surfaces. Some (including me) spray a coat of Permatex hi-tack on both sides of the gasket prior to the install. I like the added assurance around the water ports.

I got my latest set of 1020s from Brent (Blykins). He has the best pricing and his service is top notch too.

I'm running KC's stage II Eboks and Keith has Cometic custom make intake gaskets for his CNC'd heads (perfect port match). They are a good quality fibrous gasket. I also think Felpro has a new metal sandwiched gasket for the medium riser heads too (includes the Eboks). I'd run them myself if they were available for my port size. Barry had mentioned something about them also...

Garry,

I put the head gaskets on dry. Just wipe the deck and the head down to make sure they are super clean and just lay them on.

For the intake gaskets, stay away from the Felpro Printoseal gaskets (which is what that 1247 is). They have a bad reputation for blowing out.

Mr. Gasket, Flatout, and Cometic all make good alternative gaskets.

The Fel-Pro 1020 is perfectly fine for 99% of the builds you'll find here. On iron blocks they go on dry. Some guys like a touch of sealer on aluminum blocks, although I use them dry on those as well. If you are blowing 1020 gaskets on anything below 800 horsepower (and most things above) you have an underlying problem that needs to be addressed.

For intakes I use and carry the steel lined gaskets for unported heads in both medium riser and CJ port sizes. If you need to port the gaskets we use a BT gasket from an Interface material that has the consistancy of floor tile - very durable. You can trim it but it takes a very sharp knife - which will be very dull when you're finished. I install intake gaskets with an extremely thin layer of TA-31 silicone.
